Braves Trade Heyward, Walden to Cardinals for Miller and Tyrell Jenkins

I'd try to keep Justin if possible, but i wonder how he'll age.
 
People seem to not understand that BOTH of the pitchers we received from St Louis were first round picks for them, Miller in 2009 and Jenkins in 2010 supplemental. These guys have the chance to be very good and we get them for a good long time 4 years and 6 years. They are both better than anything we have in the minor league system at this point and time, which is critical to the future. This trade may be a good one for both teams, but I still believe we came out on top with this one, just like the Cards came out on top with the Wainright trade back in 2003.
 
A silver-lining (or white powdered) from Keith Law (ESPN):

Tyrell Jenkins was the No. 74 prospect for me going into the 2012 season, then shoulder injuries robbed him of much of that season and 2013. But he came back healthy this year and was one of the best prospects in the Arizona Fall League. When I saw him there in October, he was 93-96 mph with a good downhill plane, turning the pitch over quite well even at 95 mph, and generating lots of ground balls. His slider was plus at 83-87 mph, with curveball depth, and actually got sharper into his second and third innings. His changeup was fringy, straight at 86-88 mph, and effective because his delivery of the pitch is close to his fastball delivery, but lacking any life or action.

He's as strong as ever, and his shoulder is the healthiest it has been in more than two years. A former three-sport star who had a football scholarship to Baylor, he repeats his delivery very well and has the aggressiveness you'd expect (and want) to see from a former quarterback. He immediately becomes the Braves' top pitching prospect and should be ready to begin 2015 in Double-A.

Jason could clear that up of he wanted to. Just come out and say "I would have signed for 5 years 100 million". Look on mlbtraderumors, nearly every free agent says they want to stay with their current team.

There is no way this happened without both sides knowing what they were looking at, and there is no way the Braves traded Heyward without exploring the market. There is also no way Heyward and his agent were going to allow the Braves to portray him as greedy and unreasonable.

None of you know who said what to whom and when they said it, despite your proclaiming yourselves to be all knowing and clairvoyant. You also don't know what trades were available, and who was offering what. I suspect that every team knows what Heyward wants in his next contract, and teams were reluctant to give the Braves a big offer if they don't think they can sign him.

Looks a lot like Freddie and Justin and a whole bunch of crap on offense.

I do agree with this.....Jason stated repeatedly today that he wanted to stay with the team long term, but has not stated what he was looking at taking. Of course could be a ploy, don't want to hurt yourself going onto the market next offseason. But that information will never be revealed to anyone except those in the inner circle.

Where's the proof that they didn't?

Jason's hurt, what did you expect him to say? He also said that he "wasn't going to speak for Freeman" then went on to say he "wasn't happy at all".

The point is that there isn't one single person posting on this message board that has a clue - whether you hate the trade or are willing to wait to judge it until you see what else happens.

I've never, ever, heard or read of a player openly discussing their contract demands in the way you just described.

There's a fairly large difference in saying you want to stay with a team and saying that you want to stay with a team for $15MM per annum.
