Braves trade Shreve and Carpenter for Manny Banuelos

That is fair given the needs of both teams, though I believe we win this trade outright if Man-Ban becomes a solid lefty starter for us down the road. However, that doesn't mean the Yankees won't still get what they want out of it.
 
Giving up on a #13 overall prospect for bullpen arms means this trade is already a loss for the Yankees Imo.
 
If any other teams want to give us a starter with Man-Ban's potential they can have a two bullpen arms too. How about say Avilan and Jaime next time? :)

If Jaime isn't enough, I'll throw in a Cunniff. :)

Seriously, I will miss Shreve also but this is the type of trade we should be making along with moves that improve the offense.

This is an interesting trade for me. Carpenter was expendable with Johnson and Grilli in the mix (assuming Simmons is the SU unless one or both of these guys regain their dominance). I liked what I saw out of Shreve last year; however, he can be easily replaced with either a minor league guy, or a cheap vet. For what Banuelos brings to the table in potential, you had to do this trade. It has the potential to give us a ridiculous rotation, now and for the next few years with Teheran and Miller (Wood, Hale, Minor, etc. as well). If Baneulos doesn't regain his form, well, I think it was still a trade worth making for the possibility he can reach his potential.

Worst-case scenario is we traded Carpenter and Shreve for Shreve redux (if Banuelos doen't work out) and a 40-Man Roster spot IMO.
 
Ban may not amount to anything, but the trade at least makes sense. This is what you do in the situation we are in.

Here is another video of Man-Ban pitching last season in the minors. This one is from late May, I noted he hit at least 93 mph three times during this AB. And BA notes that he was up to 94 by the end of the year, and was steadily in the low 90s. Plus Yankees assistant GM Billy Eppler to George King before the trade: “Everybody walked away feeling good. He is still in the stage of where you have to watch him but he will be ready to roll in Spring Training. He will come in and compete for a job. The velocity was there and he developed a cutter as well.”
