Bravos acquire C-Doumit from Twins for Gilmartin.

I like adding Doumit for the bench but part of me is pissed off that they wasted a pick on Gilmartin in the first place. I didn't bitch too much because Minor worked out but I am gonna be pissed if they waste another first round pick on a 5th starter/AAAA fodder.

Yea I was pissed when they took Gilmartin. That's the only negative feeling today that we wasted a pick but I knew that when we drafted him. Glad we turned a meaningless piece into a valuable piece.

Doumit was a NEGATIVE 30.7 in the OF last year in UZR/150

That was almost totally in right field too, look at his range out there. Scary bad, which explains my fear of seeing Fredi start him any games out there. He'll be bad enough anywhere, but better first base or left field than RF or catcher.

Yea, it does kinda suck that the organization admitted the first round pick they made from 2 years ago was a bust.

As I see it, given the fact that Chavez has reportedly re-signed with the D-Backs, this deal is the backup to missing out on Chavez. And not a bad back-up plan either, IMO. Doumit plays the same positions that Gattis filled last year, so in essence he is replacing the void left by Gattis moving to the full-time roll as catcher.

My guess is that the Twins were giving a choice of pitchers. Not the top guys-Sims, Cabrera or Hale. But a choice from say Martin, Gilmartin, Northcraft and Schlosser. We have good depth in terms of starters who have reached the AAA level. It is an area we were well-positioned to trade from. I think Gilmartin will end up being a #4 or #5 type starter. This is a fair trade.

If they trade Gattis I can only assume a Laird/Doumit platoon or they go with Bethancourt out the gate. Gattis has more value because he's already got a full season under his belt with plenty of homeruns. Bethancourt is still a prospect.

No way this team makes the playoffs with two of the worst pitch framers in MLB (Laird and Doumit are two of the worst) catching all the games. Laird didn't even have a winning record catching games on a 96 win team last year. While Doumit is just a terrible catcher period. Apparently he doesn't even desire to catch anymore.

To sum it up, Doumit is nothing more than a bench piece or we're in trouble.

They made a bad pick. Good for them for admitting it and moving on.

Bench bat. Positional flexability (although doesn't play any of them well).

Allows Freddi to have his 3rd catcher. This is big. Sounds like Gattis starts, but they may only play him 3/5 or 7/10 days instead of the 4/5 for McCann. In that case Gattis is a big bench bat. But we know Freddi won't use it w/o a third catcher around.

I'm in the camp that we need a big move. I'd love for this to be a set up for a monster deal that lands us a stud. But I think it's just what it is....solid bench bat with positional flexability who allows Gattis to PH on off days.

gilmartin will probably end up being scott diamond 2.0

Diamond had a 5.4 ERA, with a 1.5 WHIP last year.

Yep, so good.

Gilmartin is at BEST our 10th-11th best pitching prospect including the ones in the majors, no big deal.

Yeah Gilmartin had no future in the Braves organization. It's a win win for both team as I have said already.

Furthermore I like this trade, so that makes it a good deal. :cooter:

If they were given such a choice, then I am glad they picked Gilmartin.

You liking this trade worries me :Gasp:

In all seriousness, not a big deal losing Gilmartin.

No idea why BRule acts like we traded Kershaw to them.
