Brian Giles

Connoisseur of Minors
I know not a Brave, but related to a pretty important player in Braves history. I was looking at some kind of random stuff and saw realized he was quite underrated. In the span of his playing time (97-08) he had of players with at least 1000PA in that span the 55.0 fWAR, puts him just behind Jeter and just ahead of Manny. Only on offense his offensive contribution was 9th, just behind Sheffield, just above Abreu. What's interesting is he isn't put anywhere near any of these guys. And while he's certainly no Hallof Famer or anything. But he certainly should have gotten one vote when he was on the ballot. I mean if Darin Erstad, Carlos Delgado, Lee Smith and Aaron Boone could get votes, wouldn't Giles? Especially when his peak was on par with guys like McGriff, Kent, and Sheffield who all got +10% of the vote.

Because Giles was accused by a former teammate as an abuser of Adderall.

Where would Brian and Marcus rank on the best brothers to play in MLB list? Marcus had arguably the best season between the 2. 2 brothers that have had at least one 6+ WAR year. Were they the best?

B Giles played on nothing teams. Put him in a big market and he did what he did then he would of gotten quite a bit of support.

Moving to Petco really hurt his national appeal. Still put up awesome numbers, but killed his HRs. Brian Giles was consistently awesome.

Less than 300 career HR's is what hurts him the most. A player like Giles would need 400+ bombs at his position.

To get any kind of support? I also think if was going on the ballot now for the first time he would get more support. The sabre community loves what he did. The fact is he really didn't play that much. Only became a regular at age 26.
