Bullpen

What surprised me and somewhat concerned me was how glowingly Coppy spoke of Chris Johnson and how supportive he sounded of the extension when interviewed shortly after it. I just figured Coppy would be smarter than that but it didn't sound like it in that interview. Hopefully he was just putting out the view of Wren and co. and not really his own.

What's Coppy Suppose to say after they signed Chris Johnson to an extension? Oh Chris Johnson is a crappy player but we felt he may turn out to be a decent player. He was probably lying when he said that.

Dana Eveland just opted out of his contract with the Red Sox. He needs to be on the red eye to Atlanta asap for his physical.

The pen is the product of bad luck and also trading away our best reliever on opening day. Losing Shae Simmons to injury and Vizcaino and McKirahan to suspension really hurt our depth. We were depending on those 3 plus Kimbrell to be major contributors to our pen.

Typical Braves effort. We want to upgrade our bullpen, but will not trade away anything of value and will not spend money on an upgrade.

KJ should be able to net us a decent AAA arm or two once he returns from the DL. Could also trade one of Uribe or CJ for relief help.

We can also use our somewhat surplus of AAA Catchers to acquire an arm. Trade either Will Nieves or Ryan Lavarnway to a club needing a backup catcher or AAA depth. Just another way we can get some help.

I know this wont be popular but I would pursue a trade for AJ Pollock and two of their relievers. I really like what I see from Peterson/Maybin at the top of the lineup so I think I would be okay with trading Peraza as part of the deal. I know the DBags need middle infield help so I assume he would be the prospect they want most. I suggested Teheran for Pollock/relievers earlier but apparently Pollock was trash then.

I wonder what it would take to pry K-Rod from the Brewers. He seems like a prime candidate for a salary shedding. He's owed $3.5 million this year (less what he's already been paid) and $5.5 million next year, with a team option of $6 million with a $4 million buyout for the magical year 2017. I wouldn't think we'd have to give up a ton if we took on all the money, which we should be able to do.

One quality reliever would do wonders for this team. It would slot everyone back an inning, and get guys like Cunniff and Martin out of high leverage situations. Would also likely get Masset on the DFA train.

I completely understand keeping the rebuild in mind, but I am completely against punting for the sake of punting and if this team has shown one thing, it's that they are not even close to being as bad as we expected and would lead the division if not for the 11 BP loses this year. Just saying. You've got to do something.

I'd be shopping Johnson\Grilli to Seattle while they are trying to find a closer. Avilan too for that matter. At this point instead of leveraging other assets for help, lets see what we got on the farm. Bring up some guys and throw them out there. Flip the established ones for an asset or three and move on with the results. Got to find out about these guys at some point.

That or pick up the DFA type and try and cobble together a few hot streaks from em.
