Cahill is designated for assignment. Dana Eveland joins the pen

Sucks about Cahil. Still believe it was a risk worth taking. It ended up being bad.

Was definitely worth taking even though it turned out bad. If for nothing else because...

"The Braves essentially paid $5.5MM to gamble on a rebound from Cahill and to acquire a reasonably strong draft pick, which they used to select left-hander A.J. Minter, who very well could have been selected a good deal higher had he not undergone Tommy John surgery in the spring."

Well we were talking about the RPs we traded away.
Kubitza still probably isn't more than a bench player tho.

Yeah, I'm fine with that deal. If it were not for getting Uribe back, maybe. But, I'm fine. I think we can find ways to do our thing. I like Ruiz wayyyy more.

There is still time to salvage the top 50 prospect... we got 10 days to get a deal done. The powerhouse FO should have no issues

When a rebuilding team takes shots on players turning things around they will get hits like Maybin, and misses like Cahill. He was a solid gamble to take. The results do not dictate whether it was a good move or not.

I generally like a team taking a bounce-back gamble like that, especially as a rebuilding team. I just personally wasn't a big fan of Cahill, and saw him as a fairly bad bet to regain any success as a starter. But at least the draft-pick helped compensate for the price-tag.

Yeah, it was a fine flyer for a rebuilding team. No regrets.

This... We must not forget that this team is rebuilding. You make risky moves. Some work, many don't, so you keep making moves and keep getting a little better.

Who here expected this team to be as good as they have been?

I am really glad we are not seeing the historically and epicly bad offense that some here predicted.

I am really enjoying watching htis team, and each move seems to move them a little further down the path toward being competitive.

Guys, I understand you take a flyer now and again, but once again, this was poor scouting and a poor decision. Anybody who's been paying close attention to Cahill over the course of his career and particularly the last two years knew this was a foolish signing. I was rather vocal about it at the time.

And they put $5.5m of real money in a pile, poured Cahill octane on it and lit it on fire, money that could have been used to bring in real relievers.

So, no, it wasn't a good gamble that cost us nothing and didn't work out, and there's no pat on the back for the Johns on this one. For all we know, when he went down to the the bullpen he infected all our other pitchers. That's when the bullpen changed from crap to absolute ****.

Gov, we might disagree on Fredi but I was totally with you at the time on Cahill. Plus that dumb move was followed by dumping my boy Wandy while keeping Stults. I knew that was coming at the time too so that just made me more annoyed (yes, I like Wandy and have for years).
