I think a Republican can still win statewide office in California. But it won't be a trumpy one. It will be someone with a profile more like the current Republican governors of blue states like Massachusetts, Vermont and Maryland. The unfortunate thing for California is that the state GOP is now very trumpy and unlikely to nominate a serious candidate. It is very unfortunate because California (like any other state) would benefit from having a healthy two-party system. The GOP has a constructive role to play in checking the many excesses of California Democrats. But in its current incarnation it seems uninterested in doing so.

Regardless of one’s personal views on the results or Newsom’s performance, I hope this at least convinces California that their recall system is a bit too easy to initiate. The percentage required to start this process is so low that it could conceivably happen to any Governor for any reason. That’s a costly issue for the state to solve going forward.
 
The only way he gets those numbers is if Elder is that bad.

Elsewise, I don't see how a competent voter could vote no.

Likewise, the ballots showed the vote before opening. Not good....

Still don't see how ballot harvesting and such is a real thing.
 
There are certain states where nothing is more important than the letter next to your name. Andrew Cuomo would beat a generic (R) in a hypothetical New York election held today.
