ChopCountry Cooperstown Invasion, July 27th, 2014.

I've been gone at the beach for the last few days but I'll be watching this ceremony soon. Glad to hear the speeches were memorable.

It was a really nice ceremony and great speeches, though I felt La Russa's and Thomas' dragged on a little too much (Thomas named everyone he ever knew). I found Joe Torre's to be interesting because he could have almost got in as a player - I hadn't realized how good of a player he was. But since he got in as a manager, his plaque makes no mention of his 18 seasons as a player. And he has serious ties to the Braves - as a player and a manager, so you could almost say 4 Braves got inducted yesterday.

Really? Classy.

I'd have stayed if Joe Torre had been next. It was a decision to have extra time for the drive home down the NYS Thruway. That proved to be wise, as traffic would've been worse as the afternoon/evening wore on. DVR'd the ceremony to watch tonight.

Tell the truth now, were the other members of the dinner gang homelier than you thought or verifiable chick magnets?

This pic must have been from right after he invented baseball.

Killer sideburns and Peter Gallagher brows!

Sorry, Jeff, if you don't want this information divulged publicly! We'd spoken Friday night. I projected that it'd take until about 11am, after leaving Buffalo/Niagara Falls @ 7am - and was within 15 minutes. They left Boston late and caught traffic. While all this was going on, I got to take in the village, see the museum and then the parade. All amazing to witness. They arrived in Cooperstown when I was driving to Albany, past 7pm. They stayed in Albany, as well, but weren't going to return until late (Cooperstown & Albany really aren't that close.) So, they still wanted to see the museum, and reserve a spot at the site of the ceremony. I told Jeff that breakfast was being served at 7am, and they planned to already be on the way.

I called Jeff from the parking lot, north of Cooperstown. You pay $2 and get a trolley ride, both ways, to and from the museum. Extremely well organized. This was about 9:15am. My thinking was that they'd already be at the site. "Uhh, we got up late." So, we figured on meeting up late, since the ceremony wasn't starting until 1:30pm. Grabbed some food, and the derriere of a young lady caught my attention. Not making this up, but both she and her sister both flashed very friendly smiles when I walked by, when they stopped to check out a restaurant menu. This might answer your question as to who the chick magnet was in this instance! I, of course, smiled back but proceeded, as probably being at least the same age as their father. These girls were hot though.

Got to the site around 10:30 or so. Saw sets of people, who were near my at the parade. One was a couple. The other group was father, mother and the 2 sons. All were from Chicago, and all great to talk to. I joined in for catch with the guys and dad, but had left my glove in the trunk of the car. So, just threw. Borrowed a phone from one of the fellas, and called Jeff again at 10:45am. They were 25 minutes away, but it wasn't clear if that was to the village or the site. No matter. I gave a description of my attire (Maddux, home jersey) and an identifiable meeting point, figuring that we could pick another spot. By half past noon, my patience was starting to wear thin. We never met up this time.

Jeff indicated that we did cross paths. He'd have recognized me, since I PM'd my LinkedIn profile.

So, the dinner will have to wait until Smoltz's induction weekend. If anybody wants to know specifics about the village, the museum, lodging restaurants or the overall experience, do not hesitate. Saw Murphy, Rocker & Klesko signing at the shops. Cooperstown has its own Brewery - Ommegang. Yes, it is good. Sorry for not posting in the Beer thread. Had 3 of them with dinner in Albany.

Sorry again Knucks, I definitely will forcefully push things through the next time if I am with another group.

I had a combined total of 7 hours of sleep since Thursday, and as soon as I got into Savannah today and got home, I passed out at 10am. I literally just woke up like 10 minutes ago. Last night they didn't unveil the new plaques on the wall until after 7PM, but I didn't get to take a picture of it until 830 because of the long line in the rotunda. After we got pictures for 20 seconds, we had to walk another 20 minutes back to the car, and then had to drop off friends to the STAR Bus in Albany. That was about 1030, didn't get to drive back in Boston until 2am, which after that we had to take the rental car back to Manchester NH airport, then he had to drive me straight to Logan by 430 since my flight was at 5am. Had a connector flight in Atlanta at 8am, arrived back in SAV at 930, home at 10:15. Slept at 10:16. Woke at 10:27pm. lol

I see guys like USMA, Nerf showed up...

My plan was to buy dinner for everybody that showed up from the website but not everybody said anything.

I saw knucks for a 3 seconds I'll always cherish, and had a few drinks with goldfly and sat next to him during the ceremony.

We've got to get you a disposable cell phone for the weekend next your Knucks.

I was holding out hope you would have asked another person to use their cell phone to call me back at some point, I still feel terrible you waited that long at the green tent!!

But man this past weekend still really hasn't set in... the thousands and thousands of Braves fans, being 40 yards from Maddux, Glavine, Cox, and all the other Hall of Famers. The Hall rotunda with all the plaques REALLY REALLY gave me goosebumps. All the history exhibits were wonderful, but seeing all the plaques and going left to right was amazing. Seeing Teddy ballgame's, Dimaggio, Knucksie's, even Don Suttons lol.

Really was kind of sad when I saw Ron Santo and Gwynn's plaques.

Stuff happens. Was actually going to tell you at the ceremony to just come to Buffalo instead next time. Only regret was not making time with those girls. That could've gotten me trouble with the law...especially since the place was loaded with cops & NYS troopers!

I'm pretty sure they showed Sav and Knucksie on tv a couple times. I was suprised they were wearing White Sox gear though.

I have to say that my biggest disappointment is that Braves Country packed the place beyond capacity, and the small handful of White Sox fans there were there were probably louder more vocal than we were.

Several times there were attempts to get the Chop, Bobby, etc chants going but seemed like the Southern Presence just wanted to be quiet... which was somewhat disappointing. This is the last huge round in the spotlight for Glavine, Maddux, and Cox, 3 guys hugely responsible for our team's success and putting us on the map. Just wish there were more fans enthusiastic about giving them one huge last hurrah.
