Chris Johnson

I'm also with sticking with Johnson for now. I think his true level is about halfway between his 2013 and 2014 seasons. Plus I want to see what we've got in Kubitza before going to the trouble of an external acquisition.

I'm conflicted on what the best path forward is with Chris. You always hate to sell low, and I think he stands a good chance or regaining a small amount of value in the coming year. The biggest argument in favor of keeping him may have more to do with the desert of available 3B talent in the league than his bounce-back potential.

Waiting a bit to see what Kubitza does this year does make sense, but it seems like Hart will be happy to trade Chris tomorrow if there's a halfway reasonable offer. Probably only a 25% chance he get's moved this Winter. I think Gattis is still at something like a 75% chance.

If you consider Simmons a negative, then your credibility has gone down the toilet. It will be a cold day in hades before I waste any time with any of your posts. My God.

My guess is he's referring to Simmons' offense, but as long as he has that glove and arm, he's not a hole.

We do have four low OPB guys in the lineup at catcher, short, third and center. That's a lot.

And at the moment LF as well

Got to love Braves logic, we need pitching and guys who get on base, lets' trade 2 guys who do it really well. Only blessing is that Markakis is a good patient hitter, so we only really lost one quality on base guy.

This is so foolish. Braves desire to have high OBP guys had absolutely nothing to do with the trades of Heyward/Upton. Just stop already. We get it...you don't see why they should have traded them. They should have locked both or one up to a long term contract and let the other walk because we are so great of a team we could have won a world series this year. They felt otherwise.

What's wrong with discussing the team's OBP issues and pointing out that not much has been done to address them. If anything the magnitude of the problem has increased since we now have a fourth low OBP guy (Bethancourt) who will be in the lineup.

Of course it should be discussed. The offense is going to be brutal yet again next year. I just don't see the point in making that comment about the trades. Braves felt they had to be done. Most on this board didnt. It just infects it's way into every thread and it's bothersome.

Many are missing the whole point of this offseason. Yes the Braves want to start infusing guys that are high OBP guys that don't strike out a lot, but that has nothing to do with the Justin and Jason trades. Those two trades had everything to do with the fact that they are one year away from free agency, and we did not feel that we would have either past this year. Therefore the decision was made to trade them and get the most value we could instead of keeping both for 2015 and collecting a draft pick for each.

As for the trades, one of the biggest needs of the club was a good controllable starter. We got a really good one in Shelby Miller for 4 years plus a high end pitching prospect. Jace Peterson and Mallex Smith are both high OBP guys who do not strike out much. That is exactly what the Braves are looking for. Markakis doesn't strikeout much. Callaspo doesn't strike out much either.

The direction of the team is certainly on guys who have high contact rates. Thats where the team is headed. Hopefully Seitzer can find a way to reach CJ but I'm not sure thats going to happen.

Seitzer is exactly the kind of hitting coach that, if anyone, might be able to help guys like BJ, Andrelton and Chris. I'm really hopeful we see some improvement in these guys in 2015. If he can reach BJ and/or CJ, it would make both much easier to trade.

I think he could help CJ. I just think BJ is lost as a player and will go the way of Uggla.

Perhaps, but there was some improvement from 2013 to 2014. I think there is at least a decent chance he could hit something like .230/.310/.380 with 10 to 15 homers and 15 to 20 steals. Not great, but at least somewhat productive.

I'd sign for that right now and every brave fan would as well.
