Christian Bethancourt optioned to Gwinnett

We didn't find out that freaking Jace could play until he played. If we'd have used the same path with him, he'd be in AAA. Sorry, but this has been piss poor development. If we all saw Beth do this for 45 games, it'd be one thing. Hellll I've seen him so much and I still don't know!

There was last year too - - no one confused him with Yadir then either

Its very dangerous when you get to the point where young players aren't allowed to struggle at the big league level.

Lmao.

Some of you are ridiculous. Ever think this was a move to get him more reps and to iron some things out? Don't think for a second he won't get to triple AAA and suck. He's going to do well and be back this season. Not even Fedi is stupid enough to cann a 23 year old prospect after 60 career fckn games at the professional level. Give me a break.

CB needs to play. Just like Folty needs to play.

IF the franchise is going to delude itself with AJ, then this is the right move. CB needs to play and he's not playing now. Maybe this serves as a lesson that he needs to focus on D and be elite where he can be elite.

IMO we need to play CB 4/5 games and see if it clicks for him.

The love of AJ + this suggests to me that CB's rumored attitude is what has done him in. He's not a "Braves way" guy. He will be part of a package for someone else.

Really hope we don't sink big money and/or prospects into a 30 something catcher. We could have kept McCann if we were going to do that.

Lucroy is going to cost a bunch and he's only got 2 years of control and then he's 30. I'd want some team options to get to 32 or 33 if we give up Peraza + for him. I don't want to be on the hook for age 32 but I'd like the option if he defies the odds. I'm sure such a contract would never happen in real life though.

I think you underrated Freddi

When he was first being floated around in the system, I had faith, but I haven't in about two years. A good year for him offensively is around a .250 average, a bit of pop and great defense. Is that solid? Yes. Is that consistently going to happen? Probably not.

I pray I'm wrong, but this was a good move. At least let him play more times than not.

Weiters or Lucroy are looking better and better... regardless of age and need to give up prospects, it may have to happen.

I never understood why CB was touted even for his defense. Classic example of folks getting caught in group think. Sure he had the frame and athleticism but was a classic example of a prospect who had status for eventual potential. Was never based on anything he had ever done.

He was touted for his defense when young because he has what...an 80 arm back there? The assumption was he could learn the finer points in his progression. Hardly a stretch.

We desperately need prospects for behind the plate.

I'm sure you understand that scouts scout and players have to live up to potential. As someone mentioned before, he's fallen into habits that he did when he first got to AA. That doesn't speak for what he could be IMHO. The old mantra applies: "Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard." I've seen him mope around when a lesser player at the time played in front of him, seen him outright miss 3 balls in a row, but on the other hand I've seen him throw out the best base stealers and shut down a run game in the minors. I don't know what's going on with him, but I do know that a young player, especially a demanding position like catcher has to play. Perhaps this is his wake up call. I still hope he gets it.

How's Brisero looking? I know the other catcher we got in the Hale deal is suspended, but Brisero was supposed to be the better of the two.

Didn't we just draft a handful of catchers?

C is a tough position. Few have good guys there. That is why we had such a competitive advantage with McCann, b/c it is so rare to have a guy that can hit above 7 in a good line up and not be an embarrassment on D.

CB you're hoping is an elite defensive catcher with power. Maybe he becomes a mistake hitter in the 8th spot where he can get some free walks and some HRs on hangers. But he has not been close to that. The defense has been nowhere near elite.

Hart and Co seem to think CB needs to be taught a lesson. They kept talking about not handing him the spot. It seems like the thought is that he is not putting in the work.
