Clayton Kershaw voted MVP

Tino25Dynasty

Arizona Fall Leaguer
This is ridiculous. He pitched in 27 games. A guy who played in about 16% of his team's games is the MVP? Really? Cy Young No doubt 100%. MVP? No

Yes he only pitched in 27 games. But some starters have much greater control over who wins in those 27 games then most players do over 162. He was worth 7.2 WAR this season. No NL position player was worth more than 7. So 27 games or not he was worth more to his team than anybody else in the league.

Kershaw faced 749 batters this year so essentially he had more plate appearances than any position player in the league. A pitcher could absolutley be the MVP and that is what Kershaw was this year.

Normally im against a pitcher winning it but with no other clear cuts in the NL hitting wise, i agree with this.

Agreed. I wish they would make an easily convertible stat for pitchers that shows their offense against. Basically an OPS+ number. For example, Kershaw's stat line against him was:

BA: .196

HR: 9

RBI: 42

Slash line:

.196 / .231/ .289

OPS of .521

I wish there was an easily convertible stat that we could compare that to a hitter. I guess his OPS+ against would give an a good idea in the opposite direction

Maddux had a fWAR of 8.0 in 1997 and didn't even finish first in that category for pitchers.

I had Kershaw on a fantasy team but got bummed and gave up on it when he started the year on the DL. Just a horrible baseball year for me all around.
