Why in the **** didn’t we make a move for a real starter at the deadline.

Honestly? I'd bet it's because AA looked at the market, and said, "there's nothing here that's going to put us past the Dodgers, even if we trade the entire alternate site. It's just not our year. We're not one pitcher away." And then he decided to keep what little powder he had left dry for 2021.

And I'm good with that.

To be fair though. Trading for Clevinger would help the team for the foreseeable future.

This is the first FA deal AA has made that didn't work out. Too bad it came at the position where everything went wrong in 2020, and has been tough to keep up.

This is not true. A Clevenger/Fried coupled with our pen and offense is 100% in the hunt. Plus we would have had him another year with hopefully a better Wright and a returning Soroka. We really needed this guy and we didn’t get him. What ever the reason/excuses, it was disappointing.

It is absurd to say things like "this isn't the Braves year". The Braves are one of the top teams in the game with a middling payroll, and nothing is likely to change that makes them appreciably better in the foreseeable future. Like it or not, this is peak Braves baseball, and it's only a matter of how long AA can sustain it.

If not now, when? The Braves can definitely win 4 of 7 games from the Dodgers at any point, even this year.

AA most likely didn't have the cash to spend and/or didn't want to pay the prospect prices to get other teams to take on salary (if any were even willing to do so).

2020 is nobody's year... but someone is going to win it. Might as well be us.

This team has a window of contention through at least 2024. Acuna, Albies, Fried and Soroka are all under control until then. That is a lot of young talent to have tied up and even more tied up longer if it proves itself (Anderson, Wright, Riley, Pache, Contreras, Waters, etc.). In my mind, AA not getting Clevinger equates to a belief AA has in those 6 being a significant part of the Braves window of contention.
