Honestly? I'd bet it's because AA looked at the market, and said, "there's nothing here that's going to put us past the Dodgers, even if we trade the entire alternate site. It's just not our year. We're not one pitcher away." And then he decided to keep what little powder he had left dry for 2021.

This is the first FA deal AA has made that didn't work out. Too bad it came at the position where everything went wrong in 2020, and has been tough to keep up.
