College Football Thread

My top four in no order is:

Ole Miss, Missiissippi State, FSU, and Baylor. Notre Dame is vastly overrated and needed a miracle win with help from the officials to beat Stanford.

this tidbit --

FSU has scored 34 points in all 19 of Jameis Winston's career games. Opponents probably need 5 TDs to beat FSU http://www.tomahawknation.com/2014/10/12/6965031/florida-state-football-noles-stats-fsu
//////

When deciding on the where's and who's to rank where, lets see who can
a) keep FSU under 34
b) and / or score 35 ?

Since opening day 2013 ,
one team scored more that 35 (NCSU) in 2014
one team scored more than 35 (BC) in 2013
////

A pedestrian game where the Noles went up 14 before everyone settled in and held a 24-6 lead at half time they actually lost ground in the polls.
At this point last season the discussion was Alabama was and will remain #1 as long as the unbeaten streak remains.
The rule of thumb has been over sports time the champion is the champion until someone actually beats the -- champion.

FSU hasn't had a chance to prove much yet. Miss St and Ole Miss both have two very impressive wins already on their resume. The ACC is a pretty terrible conference right now. In the end it won't matter anyway. If FSU does go undefeated then they'll be ranked #1 by default unless one of the Mississippi teams can go undefeated.

Agree with Baylor, Miss St, Ole Miss, and FSU as top 4, in no particular order. Though obviously Baylor is the weakest of the bunch.

I assume the 2 for MissSt being Auburn and Tex A&M ? Ole Miss would be Ala and again TexA&M ?

Does anyone here but me think Tex A&M is still getting points for beating Ala years ago?
Auburn has had one test all season and spit the bit.
I spent yesterday reading Crimson Cowboys thoughts on this years ALA team. Putting it kindly, this years team is a shadow of past Saben teams

If the SEC West has to play someone other than cupcakes and rival SEC West teams I say they are very very ordinary.
Do you think either Miss team can score or hold FSU to 35 ?
////////////////

Crimson Cowwboy can attest to being #1 and champion is the equivalent of being everyone's national championship game.
See, OK State and Clemson vs FSU
Or even an otherwise weak NCSU team that traditionally gives FSU fits going up 16 before losing by 15. A 31 point swing in the context of a 60 minute game is eye catching to me regardless the winner is playing a team of nuns. I still don't understand how there is enough time in a game to accomplish that.

Scratch the surface a little deeper and see FSU playing with 3rd string NT DE and Freshman Center. All due to injuries. Defeated their conference (division) rival eith a kid that had thrown 26 passes in mop up duty and 3 dys of reps with the #1's. Speaking of shadows, Nole DLine - but, hey, they keep winning

I think FSU is right there with the best teams in the SEC West. The only reason I put them third is because they don't have much on their resume right now. A good win vs Clemson, but a bad win vs NCSU. Hard to argue against Miss St. resume which includes a good win vs Texas A&M (I think they are better than Clemson), an elite win vs. Auburn (This team nearly beat FSU in the national championship), and no bad wins. Ole Miss has a good win over Bama, a good win over A&M and no bad wins.

If FSU beats Notre Dame next week and looks impressive doing it then there's a good chance I'd put them first. I just need to see them play more good teams first. That NCSU win still sticks in mind a bit. Plus to be honest it's a bit difficult to pull for FSU. You can't help but feel their QB got away with rape because he's an elite QB.

"right there with the best teams in the SEC West" that is pretty funny .

Theree is an old Depression story about two farmers :

Farmer Brown was walking by Farmer Green's farm one day and noticed a very fine looking mare in the side pen. He stopped to admire the horse and then decided he would ask Farmer Green what he wanted for the horse. Farmer Green said he would part with the horse for $50. Farmer Brown thought it was a steal so he paid the $50 and took the horse home. A week later, Farmer Green is walking past Farmer Brown's place and sees the mare in his side yard. Farmer Green thinks to himself that he was crazy to part with such a fine horse so he approaches Farmer Brown to buy the horse back. Farmer Brown says he'll sell the horse to Farmer Green for $100. Farmer Green hands over the $100 and takes the mare home with him. Another week passes and Farmer Brown is once again walking past Farmer Green's place and sees the mare, regrets selling her, and pays Farmer Green $150 to buy back the mare. A month passes and Farmer Green is passing Farmer Brown's farm and can find no sign of the mare so he goes up to the door of the farmhouse. Farmer Brown comes to the door and Farmer Green asks, "Where is the mare?" Farmer Brown responds that he sold the mare to someone from the city who was passing and wanted to buy her. Farmer Green admonished him saying, "How could you sell her. We were making a pretty good living off that horse!"

Yes both Ms St. and Ole Miss would definitely put up 35 pts vs FSU. Dak Prescott is your Heisman winner this yr. He's putting up similar or better numbers to Winston at the same time as last yr. And he's putting up better numbers than Scam Newton win he won his Heisman.

Ole Miss just took down 2 SEC elites in back to back weeks. While A&M doesn't have much of a defense, their offense is among the best in the nation. And Ole Miss completely shut their offense down. That defense is legit top 5 in the nation.

Atta boy Jameis...

http://espn.go.com/college-football...tate-seminoles-look-jameis-winston-autographs

JSA authenticates items as it receives them and attaches the serial numbers in sequential order. JSA authenticated 76 of the exact same Florida State logo footballs in order with serial numbers J65886 through J65962 and 70 of the exact same signed mini helmets in order with serial numbers J66829 through J66896. The company also authenticated 53 jerseys in a row (J66947 through J67001), 38 11-by-14 photos (J66026 through J66064), 18 of the exact same footballs (J66919 through J66936) and 11 signed Rawlings baseballs (J66898 through J66911)

If Jimbo Fisher says that Jameis didn't accept money for autographs I believe Jimbo. He's a stand up guy :

NFL personnel men have a clear memory of Fisher providing them with a glowing recommendation of former LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell when Fisher was the Tigers' offensive coordinator, and given Russell's quick ouster from the league, scouts are unlikely to be buying what Fisher might be selling regarding Winston, according to Sports Illustrated.

"He told the entire NFL that JaMarcus Russell was a great kid," a source familiar with the situation told SI. "He was a [expletive] then."

The Raiders have a reputation for instilling a responsible foundation and supporting character of young men.

did SI write that in the article or are we to assume that was a premise of the story ?

Big surprise the SEC homers are showing up.

Texas AM a good team, how?

I don't know what to tell you if you can't see they have one of most prolific offenses in the nation. And their two losses are to two teams who the large majority consider to be the top 2 teams in the nation. A&M still has no defense though which is their downfall.

LOL aTm and Florida are opposites

lol, they're a good team. Ranked about where they should be. Compare them to good teams in other conferences and they are right there. Certainly not elite, but good.

They just play in a brutal division, in which the worst team is LSU, who hasn't lost outside of the SEC West. In fact nobody in that division has lost outside their own division.

Which one of those teams has played anyone of significance outside of conference?

The answer is Auburn beating Kansas State. That's it.

West Virginia and Wisconsin are pretty decent teams.

My point being that A&M is certainly a good team. Your criteria for what makes a team good, must be hilariously high if you don't think so. You seem to imply that you think KState is a good team. They got beat by Auburn at home, the 3rd, 4th or 5th best team in the West right now.

I would say there's no real separation between KState and A&M. Two good teams.

This. And GF wants to pimp up Ohio University or Cincinnati as being good or better than SEC teams.

So the SEC teams are overrated even though they "play no one outside their division." IN that case, Marshall should even be ranked at any point this season. The literally play no one.

No Carp, what happens with the SEC is always what happens. They have 2 of the best teams in the country and then every other team in the SEC is overated simply bc they are in the SEC and associated with teams in the top 10. I've never said the SEC teams are overated bc they don't play anyone. Same thing every year, then at the end of the year when some of the overated SEC teams lose in bowl games ,its "Georgia just didn't care about their bowl game."

I've seen Marshall in person this year. They are a very good team, certainly top 20 and possibly even higher. They would beat a few SEC teams for sure. Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Kentucky, Vandy
