College Football Thread

Here are some comments

Part of it was that UAB's football program unfortunately got caught in the middle of UA infighting when UA made the decision to no longer play in Birmingham (because Legion Field is a dump and we didn't need it anymore once the on-campus stadium was expanded). When the decision was being made, prominent UA boosters in Birmingham threatened to pull their money from UA and put it into UAB's football program if Alabama stopped playing at Legion Field. So, rightly or wrongly, the UAB football program is kind of seen by the old guard at Alabama as a spite program largely funded by bitter ex-Alabama boosters.

He's involved because he is the President Pro Tempore of the University of Alabama Board of Trustees. It has nothing to do with money, because the University system has more money than God. Most of that comes from the Tuscaloosa campus.

That being said, the legendary "Bear" Bryant had a massive falling out with Gene Bartow UAB's first head coach and - if memory serves - athletic director. If Bryant Jr. has his way, he will retire from the board having killed UAB football, and killing UAB athletics in the process.

Curious fellow posters opinions. I haven't seen Missou or Tech play this season

How will ACC and SEC Championships play out

??

Tech finally has a QB that can run the offense pretty well and one of PJs better D's. They took UGA to school in the second half.

Mizzou finally got their two monster DE's healthy and on the field and they have been tough ever since.

If Smelter can play for GT, it should honestly be a very good game.

Mizzou should still get blown out by Bama, but you never know. Mizzou offense is not very good though. Not terrible, just not as good as you normally expect a Mizzou offense to be.

Yeah losing DGB was a big blow. He was a moster on the outside.

Mizzou has a very good defense with two really good DE, including one guy who may be a top 5 pick. They are able to consistently get pressure on the QB only having to rush 4 players. They are limited offensively.

I think Bama will win, but it won't be a blowout.

I think Tech pulls off the shocker and beats FSU. That triple option is just difficult to prepare for and they're running it really well right now.

Mizzou loses by double digits, they aren't going to be able to get much on the Bama defense, if anything. Mizzou's offense is pathetic. There defense is solid, top 15ish, but doesn't compare to Bamas either.

GT has a shot because they are a difficult matchup and have the most efficient offense in the country. The different thing with them this year, is they can move the ball through the air as well. There defense is no good, but it does come up with some big plays.

Riddle me this, does FSU still get in as a one loss?

The game Noles had vs Citidel gave them a look at Tech's offense and forced them to look at this style offense on film.
Don't know if that will help but ...

I don't think they make top 4 with a loss. Deserved or undeserved .
Their argument 2nd half of season is they win. Should they lose that kinda trumps that argument.

Citadel might give them a glimpse, but I doubt the speed is replicated in which GT can run it. Citadel probably isn't as efficient through the air. If anything, it probably gives GT good film on how FSU defends it.

FSU can be had with power running teams. I think this ones close.

actually they become vulnerable through spread running games. Had Treaon Martin stayed wide we wouldn't be having this conversation Or if the kid from Clemson played a full game.
Noles have seen powerfull inside running games the past 3 Miami (Duke Johnson) BC and Florida. If teams don't make um defend wide the inside is a non factor and handled all 3 because they never made them go wide. My understanding is that is Tech's bread and butter. Inside -outside running

See your point on Citidel. Personally hope Noles throw away that Citidel plan :)

Curious what you people think.

Some of the talking heads are saying Ohio State doesn't deserve to be in the playoff talk because they lost JT Barrett. I think if they win and if it's a pretty convincing win over a top 15 team, they should get a chance to make the playoff. If they lose its moot. You can't penalize a team because a player got hurt. Then again with how random the members are, who knows what they use to rank teams anymore.

You people? What do you mean "you people"? :eusa_dance:

Not sure how that will play in, but my opinion is they aren't as good without him and not one of the 4 best teams.

I think they should definitely consider the fact that Barrett is out. OSU is on the outside looking in, imo. And they should be. They have the worst loss of the teams aiming for that 4th playoff spot and they just loss their QB. I would rate them below a bunch of two loss teams right now to be honest.

I think they need a few teams to lose to get in.
