College Football Thread

Not true. The playoffs are huge for obvious reasons. The Rose Bowl is still the most recognized college game ever. There are other big bowl games as well aside from the playoff ones. Just the entire system is watered down even more now.

How are meaningless exhibition games "watered down"? They are simply a bonus game and more $ for the schools. Meaningless games by definition can't be "watered down". It doesn't accomplish anything so the "system" isn't broken. It does exactly what they want it to do. Create $.

No one I know cares about the Rose Bowl. It is perhaps the worst bowl IMO because they only choose from two conferences creating dumb matchups. I see why you like it and all, and I get that but their conference affiliation has prevented some pretty epic matchups in the past.

Before there were less bowl games and it actually meant something to get to play in a bowl game. Now they invite 80 teams to play in these games. I agree it's all about money now for everyone involved, but even before there was something to be said about being in a bowl game.

There is still the same thing to be said of playing in a bowl game. Its just as meaningless as it once was.

The BCS bowls or NY6 as they call them now are still marquee games. To those teams in those games I think it means a lot to win the Cotton Bowl last season like MSU did. Sure it's not the playoff, but you can bet those players wanted to win. Same with the Peach, Rose, and so on.

I am not defending the bowl games especially at this insane number of them, but there are traditions and match ups across the board each season to get excited about.

So far this Orange Bowl is going about as I expected it to go if I thought Clemson would win. Still think Oklahoma wins, but they are not looking too good at the moment. Lots of penalties are hurting them.

Oklahoma has no running game. They have been one dimensional and it's killing them. Think Clemson scores on this drive and it's a wrap.

Since Perine and Mixon have been banged up, Clemson has started to really pressure Mayfield and their offense has done nothing. As a result, their defense is tired.

Good game CC. Wish Cook was healthy and this one is a different ball game. Jones baited Cook into that throw though. Very savvy play by him. Good luck against Clemson.

Bad decision by Cook there. They still had another timeout left. Should have thrown it away instead of trying to force it there.
