I bet the Braves stick with the Flowers/Recker tandem and then sign Lucroy after the 2017 season. The new CBA will almost certainly eliminate the loss of a draft pick for signing guys with a QO attached, and the Braves will give Lucroy something crazy like 5/90 for his age 32-36 seasons. He will transition to being a high priced backup around 2021.

They cant plan around a specific potential free agent. What happens if the Rangers re-sign him before he gets to free agency?
I didn't say they were planning on it. I said that's what I bet happens.
Star players very rarely sign extensions when they are 1 year from becoming a FA. It very unlikely he signed an extension with the Rangers during the season
