Didn't realize players had an issue w/Chipper's prediction

I know it seems like no big deal but put yourself in the shoes of a player like Hudson or McCann who are friends with Chipper. He was essentially saying they were not good enough to win. Chipper wouldn't have been happy if Smoltz came out and predicted that a team Chipper was on was going to lose too.

He was essentially saying they were not good enough to win.

He never said that, all he did was predict the Dodgers to win. It was just a prediction, he never bad mouthed the team or anything of the sort. Amazes me to this day anyone had a problem with what he said.

Its semantics. He could have atleast predicted 5 games. Like I said, I think the players upset were upset because they consider Chipper a friend. Friends don't publicly predict their friends to lose. Its just disrespectful.

And you're missing the point completely. Most reasonable people would expect a friend and former teammate as recently as 12 months ago, to offer support publicly when/if asked about the team. I mean how hard is it to give an honest answer, but word it a supportive way?

Chipper essentially told his friends "I expect you lose." It's fine if Chipper honestly thought that. Most of America did. But, he should have shown the common courtesy to express support to the people he called his friends.

Chipper is smarter than he comes across. Listen to him talk about the technical aspects of hitting and this is evident. His problem is that there is absolutely no filter between his brain and his mouth (or his typing fingers when on Twitter). Surely he meant no disrespect to his friends and former teammates, but someone asked him a question and by God he answered it honestly. Reporters have to love this post-retirement version of #10.

I personally think he's doing 12-oz curls most of the time. Hence the twitter hilarity, etc.

Chipper gave his entire career to the Braves, is a sure fire HOF, and we were lucky to have him. To me, he should be entitled to his opinion.

He probably should have been more careful with his words, but he's Chipper, and not one of our current players will ever have his stature. Though Freeman's bat is becoming pretty impressive.

Did we make Hudson an offer to stay this year? I can't remember.

This x100. And Hudson is no Smoltz, no matter how well he pitched for us.

Huddy pitched for us for 7.5 with us 9. Maddux 11.

Huddy may not be on the Maddux glavine smoltz tier but he's right under there imo.

I don't need my friends to sugar coat their opinions, in fact I want them to be honest with me. They don't have to tell me what I want to hear to be my friend.

Don't let the facts get in the way of Gilesfan, etc. That said, I am not sure why this is still being debated since everyone involved has forgiven eachother and moved on. Plus it's now old news and now you just have posters repeating themselves, etc.

When did I mention Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, or how long Hudson pitched for the Braves?

Oh give me a break with that crap. Even if that were true (which I'm sure it isn't 100%) most normal do not have the same mindset. Normal people enjoy the support of the people they care about, even if that support may not be genuine.

If you're married Matt, and you're wife asks you if she is prettier than Kate Upton, are you seriously going to tell her the truth and say "Sorry baby, but Kate Upton is way hotter than you." Of course you aren't.

You, gilesfan, and whoever else's opinions are rather irrelevant here. Chipper was a friend, mentor, and leader for many players on that team. Chipper's opinion of the team is obviously going to be a huge deal to them. When Chipper basically tells them he thinks they aren't good enough to beat the Dodgers, it was pretty insulting. You say it wasn't a big deal, but it obviously was a big deal to the players who valued Chipper's opinion of them.

Did Chipper have the same mentality when he was playing? It isn't like last yrs team was all that drastically different than the 2012 squad. In fact, most would probably agree it was a better team.

When you stop playing you can be objective. Smoltz is objective now that he's a broadcaster, he no longer has to think the Braves will win every game they play. When he was a player he had to believe they could win every game, objectivity is not something any active player has to have. It basically boils down to this, everyone that has a problem with him being honest and predicting the Dodgers to win is being way over sensitive. I'm a Carolina fan, when Hubert Davis was an analyst he didn't have to pick Carolina every year. Joe Theisman is a big time homer for the Redskins and nobody takes him seriously as a result. Chipper knows the game and he gave his honest assessment of what he thought would happen and he nailed it. Chipper has nothing to prove to you or anyone else, he's Mr. Brave and him picking the Dodgers to win a postseason series vs the Braves does nothing to change that.

It's way different when it's practically the same group of guys you played with less than 12 months ago. The braves have no ties to any players Smoltz played with when he was a brave, and the vast majority that played with him that last season left several yrs ago. Not to mention, those guys get paid to give an objective point. Chipper was/is not analyst and never will be. If you can't even admit that what he said was poorly worded than there is no point in arguing with you.

One thing that no one is talking about here is Huddy was out for the season with a broken leg. Don't you think that was part of the reason Chipper had us getting beat? Chipper was 100% right and I have no problem with it.

Oh and do you think Huddy is still loyal to the Braves now?

Im sure Chipper has plenty of friends on the Dodgers as well. If he picked the Braves, would they throw a hissyfit?

A man gave an honest opinion. If anyone can't accept that, that aren't mentally strong enough.
