Disney Acquisition of Fox Sports Regional Networks

It's now official that Disney has bought most of Fox, including their regional sports networks. They will now be under ESPN's umbrella. I'm not sure if this means the Braves could potentially get a better deal on their television rights? I honestly don't know the ins and outs of these rights deals.

Perhaps, at least, they could broadcast games from only one network now. I never quite understood the difference between FS South and Southeast, why there were two of them, and why the Braves had to be on both.

Listening to the news, I was under the impression that Murdoch is keeping the news and sports operations. Is that only the national sports operation?

the current contract will remain in place until it expires. Even if the networks changed hands it would be unlikely that the Braves would seen any improvement in the deal until it expires. Unless the Braves, like the SEC did, were willing to sell additional rights beyond the current contract for less than its actual value in exchange for getting a bump on the years that are under contract.

Given what is happening in cable right now, I don't think any network is going to renegotiate that kind of deal right now.

The Braves completely missed the window of selling TV rights for huge dollars. They sold them before the prices exploded, and won't be selling them again until after cable TV goes the way of the dodo.

That is probably correct and we have Ted Turner's Time Warner deal to thank for that.

Still, the Braves should close the gap when they get another crack at it assuming Liberty doesn't dick them over the way Ted did. When Ted was done, he was done.

I heard that as well. I think Fox News, Business, and sports would remain the same.

The regional Fox Sports network goes to Disney(Fox Sports South/Fox Sports Southeast). The Fox Sports being referred to as being kept are the 2 Fox Sports channels, FS1(channel 219 on Directv) and FS2

Disney had so many reasons for doing this but yes one of them was to get Fox's regional sports networks which will tremendously help out ESPN.

I'm personally a fan of this move. Disney gets the rights back to X-Men and FF. Also gets the rights back to the unaltered Episode 4.
