Do y'all think it's possible for the Braves to ever become a window-less team, ala the Dodgers n Yankees?

Cuz to be honest, I really never gave windows a second thought, aside from occasionally opening them and reinstalling them on my PCs over the years.

As I've aged, rebuilds and or non-competitive seasons (this year being an exception, due to the preseason expectations, falling into a pit at from the very start, and just the overall aesthetics) have gotten easier for me to stomach, as real life shit has an obvious way of refining perspective(s).

But yeah, what do you guys feel is keeping us from being perpetually competitive, to the point where, at least ideally, we could be one of those teams that isn't living on borrowed time in a particular competitive window?

The main thing that comes to mind for me, is money. Particularly, the stupid kind of money that the New Yorks and Los Angeles...es seem to possess.

However, I imagine the equation isn't that simple, and that's where I would love for y'all to fill in the gaps for me.

So yeah, are we always going to be window-ing it up? Or will there come a time where we can embrace the following slogan:

" just say no..... to the window" 🥹🥹🥹

Yes, simply because the Braves have shown a commitment to be a top 10 payroll, are generating their own revenue from the Battery, and have less revenue uncertainty through their TV contract than others.

It really does feel like the gap between the haves and have nots is widening, and the regional sports networks blowing up sped up this process. You saw last off season where over half the league was afraid to spend or was looking to cut payroll. It appears this will be the norm in the short term.

I feel like we've been in one. The team has had only 7 losing seasons since 1991.
Exactly. And, as we’ve seen, if you’re in the playoffs you’re a World Series contender. This isn’t the NFL where you usually need a great team to be a true championship contender, even if you’re a playoff team.

The money from the battery…. And continual 3 million + attendance….. is there for them to compete every year. They really have no reason not too these days. We’ll see what AA can do when these contracts start cooking off the books and if ownership really does want to use the money for baseball and not some other liberty bs investment

i think they absolutely can become a team that sustains extended success without needing to enter a full rebuild, but i don't think they quite have the resources to be contenders literally every year like the yankees or dodgers.

As long as we are investing into the team, both the active roster and the minor leagues, then we should never be more than a 3-4 year period of being under .500.

The only reason why we went through 2015-2017 is because we sold off all of our stars. We still could have been in playoff contention for several seasons with J-Up, Kimbrel, and Simba (the Heyward trade and subsequent Miller trades should have happened regardless). Though we would have missed out on Fried and probably Riley.

Honestly, had we made all the other moves and just kept Kimbrel, Simba, and Wood, we might have still been playoff contenders in 2016 with some decent pitching additions in FA.

They are going to have to start paying the proven talent instead of gambling on the future. I would much rather have Freddie, Dans, and Max than Strider, Harris and Riley locked into deals they haven't performed to. But I know I am in the minority.

The thing is those early deals are a lot cheaper than signing someone headed to free agency. Those three guys would have been extremely expensive although obviously keeping them would have been great.

But Anthopoulos did this to himself to some extent. As I've written before, each of the extensions makes sense when considered individually, but it's the sum of them that has bumped them up to the next threshold and if ownership doesn't want to exceed that amount the team is stuck to some extent. Don't get me wrong, I think Anthopoulos has been inventive and done a masterful job of finding productive guys at mid-level prices (Sale being the best example) and signing Acuna long-term for a ridiculously low amount, but we have to hope that Riley gets and stays healthy and Harris figures out the difference between a ball and a strike.

Big off-season. Team clearly has a lot going for it, but I think there needs to be improvements at the margins. We'll just have to see how the budget works out.
