DOB: Braves close to signing Wandy Rodriguez

I would like to know what flunked him with Phillies that Braves found acceptable or that got well in two weeks

I wonder if Philly wanted to renegotiate the deal after reviewing the physical (less dollars upon making the roster, for example) and the Braves swooped in offering to match the original terms. Given Wandy's age and recurent knee issues it could possibly be a degenerative condition.

Have to believe that if he is indeed healthy, he is the frontrunner for the #5 spot in the rotation.

I actually think exactly the opposite personally. Kinda figure they're hoping he's healthy enough to pitch during camp to keep from simply "handing" the job to Hale or Banuelos. Have to think it's the same reason they're still talking to Beachy as well - I don't think you want either of those guys to feel comfortable about a spot in the rotation until they've truly earned it.

The sole reason I believe he is the frontrunner is simply to serve as a veteran arm for an incredibly young rotation.
