DOB: Braves offseason about to get a lot busier. - Gamel released.

Halladay is literally a year removed from a very good season and 2 years from a Cy quality season. Maybe he's shot, but he's well worth the money.

All depends on the price of course but there are a number of superior alternatives on the FA market. Johnson, Hughes, Haren, Capuano, Feldman, Arroyo to name some I would rather have than Halladay.

Beltran to an AL team is a great move, dude can still flat out hit. Stick him at DH, let him play RF 30-40 times a year and he will be fine.

Of those, i wouldnt mind Feldman, Hughes, or Arroyo.

Depending on price of course.

Halladay in his last start threw 83 MPH and was taken out after a few innings.

Maybe he's not done but i'd prefer to not take a risk on him.

Are we seriously discussing signing Halladay? Just wake me up when Spring Training starts if that's going to be our offseason.

Well, i doubt we do much.

Maybe 1 veteran starter, a bullpen arm or two, and a bench piece.

Not like we need to do much.

Some tweaks are needed, but not an overhaul. The one thing we do need (sure enough ace) isn't attainable at this point.

But for the love of God, don't sign an injury-riddled veteran pitcher.

Sounds like McCann is going to have plenty of suitors in the American League. Good luck Brian, you will be missed, but it's clear you aren't ever going to win in Atlanta.

Good to know. Now I don't have to bother watching all season since there is no chance of winning a playoff series. So much more time for activities.

Have you watched the Braves this millenium? He maybe on to something.

I didnt see the Pirates make the playoffs for 20 straight years but eventually that streak got broken too. Red Sox didnt win the world series for 100 years. You never know when that **** is going to end.

I know, man. I'm just still bitter.

What's funny (or sad) is that the Pirates still haven't won a playoff series since 1979.

No, we don't.

Boston didnt have a ton of stars and just won the WS so very dumb logic.

Boston was pretty much underrated all yr. They had a lot of good hitters and Ortiz is still one of the best hitters in the game.

I am not that concerned with the rotation, although signing a vet arm to anchor the staff should be a priority.

The hitting is my concern. We are losing B-Mac who is a fantatstic hitter. I'm sure Gattis can be a decent hitter, but he simply is not the hitter Mac is. J-Up isn't the elite hitter some thought we were getting. Heyward may never become the franchise player everyone envisioned. Will Chris Johnson be able sustain a high BA next as well? Uggla and BJ are terrible hitters with terrible contracts.

I just don't see us having the hitting necessary to put us over the hump. And I really think with all the questions we have on offense that it's extremely foolish to let probably your 2nd best walk in FA. Especially when it's pretty clear he wants to stay and would stay for a reasonable offer. We need better ownership in bad way. No reason we should be letting a possible HOF catcher walk when he's still in his prime.

Prime, he gets worse every year....time for him to leave...fantastic hitter???? not for a while now..

They won a one game playoff "series" this year. Obviously that shouldn't count, but as far as the record book is concerned, the Pirates have won a playoff series more recently than the Braves.
