I don't see this as anything more than procedural. Maybe I'm missing something, though.
It has been thirteen years since this happened with the Braves. In that case, the player was traded that same year.

This is why I would trade Kimbrel NOW!!!
Every single professional player comes into the league feeling that they are a $100M man. The elite ones see it happening sooner. Thats all.
People here are so divided it is hard to get a consensus on anything but just as a refresher: 1b is the easiest position to replace currently. Heyward is extremely athletic and talented but he HAS NOT harnessed that talent to date. Kimbrel is the best closer to come along in a while considering his age and all else, it is just unfortunate that baseball has chosen this time to devalue closers or so it seems. The 3 most ofter mentioned along Kimbrel are Papelbon, Rivera and SOriano. None of their teams even made the playoffs this year. What does that portend to GMs other than there are better ways to spend the money.
Heyward thinks he is better than he really is......if he wants to go then bye..

Welcome aboard.
Not sure what they could trade him for though.
My only question is, who replaces him as closer? Do we have anyone internally that fits the mold?

Off the top of my head Avilan would be the logical favorite to close. Walden certainly would get looks. Carpenter should be able to do it in a 3 run situation, just dont let him throw a curve.
Someone wonders why Kimbrel wasnt traded early in the off season: No way to gauge return until arb figures. At best it wouldnt be a great deal but if he wins his case return will be less.
I personally think Heyward is gone very soon. Just the Braves way of doing things. Might could get a good return from a team like the BoSox or even the CUbs if they get Tanaka.
Freddie I think stays at least thru this year and probably next as well. But if he or his agent has indicated that he wants to go West, Seattle would be a good starting point and maybe even the Angels.
Kimbrel is worth every penny he will get to any team that goes deep into the playoffs.
I highly, highly doubt any of the three will be traded until at least next offseason, if then. We are too good, built to win now, to deal any of the these three who are three of the best on the team.
sounds like a lovely team the braves will run out in the new stadium in cobb countyMy predictions: Heyward stays and plays for the Braves in 2014 and 2015, Freddie stays and plays for the Braves in 2014, 2015 and 2016, Kimbrel stays and plays in 2014 and 2015 but is traded before his last arb season in 2016.
The only arb case that is somewhat problematic is Kimbrel's. The other two are within the range that the team would have been projecting.
