DOB: Braves offseason about to get a lot busier. - Gamel released.

The decisions to drop Reed Johnson, Elliot Johnson and Janish, and so far not add any veteran bench players, could be a signal we're going to give roster spots to some younger guys. Potentially good news for Terdoslavich, Pastornicky, La Stella, Cunningham and Constanza.

We need depth, Martinez is that. And Martinez had a very solid FIP and xFIP for his career both around 3.5. We certainly could use that plus the ability to go multiple innings in ou pen.

SIERA indicates he should be even better than that. But anyway if he's a mid 3-4 ERA pitcher who eats innings he's arguably the best longman in baseball. If our BP was

Kimbrel

Walden

Venters

Carpenter

Avilan

Vet

Martinez

There isn't a better BP in baseball.

That said who knows if Martinez is healthy or not. And there's a cost risk. If he is healthy we need to bring him back.

"if healthy we need to bring him back" ? He had shoulder surgery in August, how can he be healthy?

We'll pickup a vet. What this means is that Schafer is safe.

Bench will be

Laird
Schafer
Pastornicky
Pena

Then the question is does Joey T get the last spot or do we go after someone via FA? Berkman would be my dream choice. He signed a 1/10 and had a down year he may sign for 1/4-5 depending on the market. Would extend the same offer to Kendry MOrales but I expect him to sign somewhere. For more of a bargain hunt could go after Luke Scott.

Of course it could go to Uggla if he sucks and Tommy takes over 2B.

Don't know what his recovery timetable is. According to Roto World he is due back in 7-8 months from July. Which would mean he'd be back in time for ST if that's true. Not all shoulder surgeries are the same.

True, but most shoulder surgs are less routine than TJ on the elbow, and the recovery rate is considerably less. If anyone knows how healthy he is it would be our guys.

I'm starting to get that feel like I did last year when we traded for Justin Upton. I think Wren is going to trade for David Price.

I think we have some real nice pieces already for the bench. But we definitely need some pop off the bench and a go to pinch hitter. Terdo can eventually be that player but I'd rather get a proven guy.

I just dont see how we get him without gutting the farm and/or big league team.

No idea what Wren is targeting.

The upper minors is ripe for the gutting, but i don't think there is much value there.

We have a lot of good but not great RHP prospects, starters and relievers, headed for AAA in 2014. We can partner with another team looking to add some pitching depth. But it will be the kind of trade that yields a complementary player rather than a star.

+1 ... All quiet on the western front. Perhaps a little too quiet.

I would create a trade proposal, but I don't want Knucksie to drive to my house and kill me in my sleep.

I think the fact you even came up with a gut feeling that we were going to get David Price without actual real sources, is grounds enough for Knucksie to call you out. :YDS:
