DOB has blown the whistle on the clubhouse; now what?

So who would it be?

Maddon isn't known as a disciplinarian. Scioscia isn't. Certainly ain't gonna be Ned Yost, as he's probably worse than Fredi.

You bring a Larry Bowa loudmouth in here and it will destroy the clubhouse permanently for years until you rebuild the team.

Again, this isn't a Fredi problem,

Yes, he is the problem. He is entitled, Bobby Cox endorsed him, so he is entitled and can get away with this crap knowing he won't be fired unless we are in last place. Treading water is good enough for him to retain his position until people like us start screaming about it in the media, like now.

What have I said all year long?? I said all along as early as May this team was lacking in important attributes. You could to tell in so many ways. Body language, lack of hustle, bad jumps, etc. Wren needs to go to work and get rid of some guys regardless of stat lines. I hate being right about this I really do...

most talk about leaders and whatnot is all bull****. if a team is winning, it's great chemistry. if they're losing, they have leadership issues. players play. whether they hit or not has nothing to do with leadership. it's on their ability and their work ethic.

the only real leader they need is the guy that's paid to lead them into battle. you know, the guy that doesn't hit or pitch. the guy out in front.

If I came away with anything this past week as we pissed away a few winnable games by doing a lot of the same horse****, it's this: This bunch — not all 25, necessarily, but as a collective — is garbage and a disgrace to the Atlanta Braves tradition. Can it get better? Perhaps, if some guys grow up, but IDK. The thing is, as much as I love this organization, I'm finding it increasingly more difficult to really give a **** what happens to this bunch this year.

As soon as something doesn't go their way, they play like they have pitch forks stuck up their ass. And I know this isn't true for all of them, but half of them look like they just don't give a **** anymore. There's no sense of urgency whatsoever. There is no leadership and people covering the team now acknowledge that. And if they can't get up off their ass and play hard for this great organization, then **** them.

Maybe our manager needs to step up and be a leader he has to be for this team to succeed. I love Jason and I think he has what it takes to be a leader... heck, I'm sure he is. But, he can't do it alone.

You nailed it...

This year is probably the year I've watched Braves baseball the least since I turned 18. I was watching early on a decent amount, then we kept trotting out moronic lineup after moronic lineup. Fredi did this same **** last year when he batted Simmons leadoff.

I won't care that much about this team unless we sneak our way into the playoffs or we nut up and drop BJ down to the 8th spot. I don't care about his feelings. Fredi hasn't been really able to control players as it is it seems (see Johnson, Chris) so **** it. Bat him 8th or 9th and minimize the damage. Maybe he'll do some soul searching and start hitting. I don't believe he enjoys sucking. I'm pretty sure he's pissed at his play as most professionals would be. So maybe hitting him dead last would be the motivation to get his ass in gear.

Losing Mac hurt in so many ways. He was definitely the heart of this team after Chipper retired.

Freddie needs to step up be that man now, but he seems to be a little immature. OTOH, he is barely 25 years old, so he's still a kid. And it seemed like Uggla was not only one of his best friends, but a sort of mentor as well. I don't think he's dealing well with Uggla being released.

Something needs to be done, that's for sure.

I'm just about done. I'm going to stick with them through this murderous stretch of games about to kick off as much as I can, and if they're even worse off at the end of it, then I'm done for the year. And I've never quit on a team. But I'm not wasting my time on a team that refuses to get better. A manager that refuses to understand that the guy with the lowest on-base percentage SHOULDN'T BE GETTING THE MOST AT BATS.

Hard to remember how young Freddie is sometimes, but if he can't deal with a teammate — no matter how close — being released and be a professional, then it's going to be a very underwhelming career for him.

If you ask me the Uptons need to be on the first ride out of Atl. Simmons and Freeman both act as if the money has gone to their heads so locking them up this early may prove a mistake from a chemistry standpoint.

The problem with leadership in the club is that Jason isn't getting paid, Freddie is. ........ But I'd imagine the guys in the locker room would consider the dude who just took a big pay raise to be their leader.
Certainly one of the leaders, but not because of the money. Money's got little to do with real leadership.

If there are any leaders in the clubhouse now would be a good time to make themselves known. They may not be able to hit but at least they should be able to stand at their lockers and chat with the media.

I don't understand people saying "Oh we miss Huddy and Mac" as if we won so much more when they were here.

That could not be further from the truth. He's the only young guy on this team that acts like a leader. Freddie is a clown, Kimbrel is pretty arrogant and Simmons seems to be a hot head at times. If anyone leads by example it's Jason freaking Heyward.

Maybe the real problem is that our manager is the guy that has the demeanor of a role player.

I agree. Jason competes harder than anyone out there. And he seems pretty vocal in the dugout. The only question is whether he feels secure enough to take on a teammate who loafs or does something dumb. Pendleton had a way of letting guys know when they did that.

Tend to agree. Red Sox 2013 versus Red Sox 2014. What happened to the chemistry and leadership. Nothing. They just had everything go their way last year. And Lady Luck is fickle.

Yeah, I do, as well. It's an easy, maybe even lazy, thing to write and a facile observation, if given without evidence.

This team has issues and is a massive ****-show on the field right now. But a lot of the poor play—Simmons's bunt, the stolen base attempts, even Hale's flare-up—owes to pressing and trying too hard, not to lack of effort, as some have suggested.

You are correct. If the Braves start winning again, I wonder if Bowman will write something about how someone has stepped up, even if it's really just the little things going the right way.

Also agree with those who have identified Heyward as a leader who is leading by example. Maybe he doesn't call people out, but he hustles his tail off, has 5.2 WAR as of now, doesn't throw tantrums, interviews well and doesn't sulk.

It's not too late this year, but with the upcoming schedule, things are going to be hard to turn around.

Who constructed the team?

I think chemistry is overrated because everybody is happy (generally) when winning, but adversity does reveal character. This is a very young team and they are learning the non-playing field aspect of the game. Some folks are going to have to grow up fast because things appear to be disintegrating.

I bet both he and DOB had a draft written last night about how Heyward had shown great leadership and carried the team on his back, blah blah blah, cliché cliché cliché. Unfortunately, they had to do a re-write.
