Does the pitching feeding frenzy make you feel better about the strategy

So when the Braves don't finish strong, and don't have a good vibe going into the offseason, can we all finally admit that maybe the Braves FO has no clue how to build a winner at the MLB level?

If anyone thinks this team is a candidate to "finish strong" they are Grade A morons. The best this team can finish is with less than 100 losses. Does that qualify as strong?

Seems like a good vibe! Maybe the marketing strategy can be, "Sit in 4 hours of traffic to watch your 100 loss Atlanta Braves!".

They also struggle with finding offense at all levels (internationally excluded). In a year when Clint Frazier, Lewis Brinson, etc. go for less than Julio, you should pounce. Those are two outfielders that would easily fit into our future plans though many here don't like Brinson.

Why in the world would a rebuilding team like the Braves want a young OF talent like Frazier or Brinson when they have Matt Kemp??

Why not? They obviously think the team can compete next year with Kemp in LF.

I think there is a very strong chance this FO is completely out of touch with what it takes to build a competitive MLB roster in the current climate of MLB.

And for high payroll teams that's how they should value him. As a #2 starter. The value of his contract is lost on teams like that.

I think you take the positive face the front office puts on things too literally.

they know Johnson isn't a key player that's why he has been on block.

They just didn't get an offer they liked and probably figured to try him on waivers and see if it gets better.

We know they might as well not have bothered on grilli.

I suppose it's better to have a set up man than a minor leaguer you cut Ayer a few weeks.
 
I'm almost to bitter to even reply to this thread. If we knew how to take advantage of the pitching market like the Yanks, then yes. We are just worried about making it "appear" we will have a good team next year. It's all PR for the new park at this point. How about figuring out the the traffic nightmare, instead of holding onto assets in the best pitching sellers market I've seen in a while. THAT might make me want to actually visit the new park. I am just SO disappointed in the front office...dang.

Yes, I'm sure they feel that Kemp is the last piece for our contending team...
 
To me the Kemp deal is nothing more than BJ revisited...get rid of a horrible contract and hope you get lucky on whatever players you get in return.
 
The massive deals & teams over paying are a byproduct of next year being the weakest free agent SP pool in modern history
 
Building around pitching has always been the best way to do it. There will always be an inelastic demand for pitching in baseball, because pitching is by far the most important factor when it comes to winning. It isn't the only factor, but if your pitching is lousy, you aren't winning no matter how good your offense and defense are.
