DOJ vs The Googles : Antitrust or bust?

This seems to be something worth discussing without taking a political stance....

Regardless of the info, should Google\FB\Twitter censor AND share info they deem "pertanent or not"?

Do they represent a monopoly outside the legal definitions we allow?

Three of the most powerful companies in the world mind you....

My instinct is that if they're going to censor then they should be responsible for everything they don't censor. Otherwise what was the point. I admit I haven't looked into the constitutionality of that stance so it probably needs to change.
I can't make sense of a world where AT&T was so powerful it needed to be broken up, but these companies somehow aren't. I don't want any corporation or person to have this kind of power.

To my knowledge, social networking sites don't publish any news. They are are simply a conduit for online social interaction, so I have no issue with them running their own sites as they wish and "fact checking" popular articles, posts, tweets, or memes as they see fit.

Google is a different animal. I generally like Google, but they do seem to have too much power and influence.

We're at a difficult juncture. The power some of these companies have has allowed them to revolutionize our lives. A system like Facebook or Twitter don't work without a critical mass of users. This dominance though absolutely discourages competition.

Then you look at companies like Amazon and Google that have been able to innovate on a scale perhaps never before seen. How do we keep the ability of these companies to innovate on a large scale while also encouraging competition?

The other side is a company like Parker gets mocked for being a safe space for nazis or something... when in reality it is an attempt at genuine competition to a company who is very willing and eager to censor political opinions they dont approve of

Is the Fairness Doctrine a fit for this thread ?
And the avalanche of unchecked right wing propaganda 24/7

Parler rightly deserves to be mocked. They are essentially the OAN of Social Media platforms.

This is the problem

Conservatives complain about free speech being censored.

Then you say "twitter has that right. Why don't you start your own company!"

Then Conservatives do just that. And people like you mock them for it and don't give it a chance and then you have a right wing echo chamber there

I think a lot of the problem is that they're big enough to just swallow anyone who represents potential competition. Some companies entire business plan is to be bought out by one of the big 3.

If those nazis would just shut up this wouldn't be an issue.

Parler contains largely conspiracy theories and far right propaganda, despite being self described as an "unbiased platform." It was a platform created by conservatives and targeted conservatives as their market. When you target one demograph, it shouldn't be surprising what the result is. Even with the issues Twitter has, it's not nearly as biased as Parler.

And if it wasn't clear by now, I am a conservative. And I still find sites like this not only ridiculous, but also dangerous in how they fuel far right propaganda.

I know absolute zero about whatever Parler is, but isn't the point that you find an arbitrary end point for "true stories" and Twitter and FB find a different point the same issue?

No concerns about how Twitter fuels the woke left?

Lockdowns saved thousands of lives. Being the pro-lifer I am, I support endeavors that save lives, even if it isn't convenient for me.. Not that complicated.

And no, I don't recall "cheering on" anyone getting arrested for going to the park. In fact, I believe I advised you many times to get out and get some fresh air/exercise.
