Don Sutton Has Passed Away

For some reason- maybe because he was a little before my time- I thought he pitched some of his last seasons for the Braves.

It was painful having to watch him do a Braves/Nats game on MASN. He knew more about the Braves by a mile. I will always wonder who or what caused that two-year separation.

If i'm not mistaken, wasn't that around the time the Braves started to leave TBS for Peachtree TV/ FOXSports Southeast and were cutting back on the broadcast team?

I've been trying to remember how the broadcast team was paired when it was Pete/Skip and Sutton/Simpson. I remember they used to switch the radio/tv broadcasts but don't remember the specifics.

Sutton was my favorite I think.

I seem to remember that Sutton refused to be paired with Skip.

It used to be Skip and Joe, and Pete and Don on TBS days.

One team would call the first half of the game, then they'd rotate. Then the next game the team that finished that one would start it again and vice versa.

That was what I thought the pairing was, but wasn't too sure. I liked switching the teams up. Kept it fresh.

I don't know if they always did it this way, but for the longest time they would rotate every three innings.

One of my favorite memories was going to a Braves game with my dad at the Ted. We walked through the gate and Skip was standing at a podium right outside his BBQ joint they had out there....no one really going up to say hello, but we did....

He was always a treat to listen to.

Skip was a frequent attendee at Panos and Pauls Restaurant. One night I was lucky enough to get a table next to his but I had some clients with me so had limited opps to speak to Skip. I asked him what he recommended on the menu. His response was the deep fried lobster. One of my most regrettable mistakes in life.
