DRAFT IN PROGRESS THREAD ... What's past is preamble

Posted this in the other thread... but don't want to derail it

Not sure it matters...

Those first 3 picks had $9,587,300 in slot value.

Wentz is going for 3,050,000, and Muller for 2,500,000.

That leaves us with $4,037,300 to sign Lewis... which is essentially like being drafted 6th. Not to mention not doing things like going over slot on Harrington.

I think it's a stretch to say that Lewis was willing to sign for $3.2M, but would have been unwilling to sign for $4+M

Obviously, neither of us know for sure what Lewis would have signed for as the 3rd Pick. I think the Braves Scouts know what they are doing. You prefer to challenge every move they make.

Makes for interesting discussions, but doesn't change a thing.

I'm saying that the only reason to take Anderson over Lewis was if the Braves thought Anderson was the better overall prospect.

I really question that judgement - especially when considering the shambles the organization is in when it comes to offense.

I don't quite understand why people get so furious when someone dares to question the FO strategy

Nobody furious here. Just disagreeing.

Has the FO every done anything you agreed with?

Small article on Josh Anthony, our 16th round C/2B/3B from Western Oklahoma.

I know this has been discussed previously in this thread - but those are some eye-popping numbers.

Hit .444/.565/.862 with 25 bombs and 49 stolen bases!

The guy isn't facing strong competition and there's a reason he lasted until the 16th round, but this is certainly a dude that's intriguing.

National JUCO ranks:
12th in BA - .444
T2nd in HRs - 25
3rd in SBs - 49 (no other JUCO player who stole more than 32 bases hit more than 10 home runs - and these guys are all facing the same competition as Anthony is)
5th in OBP - .565
3rd in SLG - .862

Committed to Auburn; I hope we can sign him.

If nothing else those numbers show he has power and speed. Whether those tools translate into production against better competition is yet to be seen but you don't put up those numbers without the raw tools.

exactly, there's obviously some big warts here if he's putting up numbers like that and falling to the 16th round; but as you say he clearly has some power and speed.

I hope we can sign him for 2 reasons. 1) I want him, and 2) I really do not want Auburn getting him.
