I think libertanianism makes a positive contribution. We can take the connectedness and externalities business to absurd extremes. But it is just as absurd to pretend that each man is an island unto himself.
When it comes to society's obligations to children it bears keeping in mind that children don't get to choose the circumstances into which they are born. If we can take some measures to reduce the inequalities inherent in that without destroying incentives to work then we should do it. We should obviously take care not to create perverse incentives.
