It's bizarre to me how personally you take any criticism of Trump.

He's doing a lot of good things. I think tarrifs are stupid and bad. Is that ok? Or is it binary he is either perfect or.horrible?

I gave him credit for the De Minumus shipment policy (which many of my free trade brethren would bemoan).

I criticize a needless trade war with our closest ally that was started on vaguely defined pretenses.

How is it vaguely defined - Just like with Panama its very easy to understand what Trumps goals are

Tariffs are a weapon to yield as the most powerful nation on earth with the most power markets on earth. Should we just ask these nations nicely to do things for us? Should we just invade them?

They are a weapon and I don't see the risk / reward with slapping huge tarrifs on canada as even close to being worth it.

If it's all bluster and he gets some sort of concession, fine, great. Probably still not worth antagonizing them for such a little gain, but OK.

If he actually puts tarrifs on that he's threatening for any extended period of time, americans will suffer

Its not worth policing our borders to prevent smuggling? Its not worth it to get our adversary out of the hemisphere? You live in a different reality than I do.

Again - People didn't even know how much influence the CCP had in Panama until yesterday. Its happening everywhere and it needs to stop.
