Economics Thread

The tweet you posted tells her the solution is simple. And that solution is to make it in america.

If she does, her business won't survive.

Sucks for her

Well I still think that she could make her clothing in America and be profitable - Just can't accept lower profit margins because seh is on the sugar high of benefiting from slave labor.

Inflation being 2.4% is not collapsing.

It means prices are 2.4% higher than they were last year, which were higher than the previous year, et al.

The old target for inflation was 2%

Those days are long gone

I don't know how many people are willing to pay $50 for.crappy t shirts, but please do lead the way.

For the next month, buy only goods made in America. Tell us how it goes

Why do you think it would cost that much? First link on the google is a 3 pack for 50 for what appears to be high quality:

10 pack for 100 dollars

Sounds like a tremendous business opportunity

Please let us know how it goes this month. Buy only American made goods. Food, clothes, etc. Tell us what the costs were compared to last month

Hey - you are the one that says if its made in America it has to be 50 bucks a t-shirt.

The manufacturing costs per unit is not what you make it to be just like tariffs wouldnt' increase costs to the level you make them out to.

Do you not want to do this experiment?

I don't know what the math is on a $10 wholesale shirt.

Still have to design them. Still have to tag them. Still have to package them. Still have to ship them. Still have to take returns. Oh and still have to market them and have a way to transact them

And guessing a $10 wholesale shirt is made with shitting fabric. Likely to shrink.

So needing to make ~50% margins to stay afloat... after all the costs above adds another $15-25 per shirt. Youre looking at a $50 price tag

That isn't wholesale pricing - Those are retail price.

true classic tees are made in other countries

And the supply: True Classic partners with 10 manufacturing plants across Egypt, Turkey, China, and Bangladesh, and loading up on inventory right before the pandemic was a happy “accident,” in Bartlett’s view.

Thanks for the clariication - Odd that T-shirts manufactured in China can be so expensive.

BUT IS THERE A MARKET FOR IT?!?!?!

T-Shirts made in America (maybe) cheaper than the other brand getting them in China.

MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!

All these clothing retailers have been wasting money all these years!

Idiots

10 pack for 100 dollars
10 dollars for a 50/50 poly blend shirt kind of sucks.

FOr example, I can buy a 12 pack of Gildan shirts for half the price

For similar price I can get 100% cotton shirts for less that are that same ugly look as those.

Its all about your business model and how much margin you need to function or willing to tolerate.

But the idea that T-shirts have to be 50 bucks a piece to be manufactured int he US is well - laughable.

Anything of any quality material will be more than that.

THe only thing that changes with quality is the cost of goods - labor cost inputs are close to the same.

So you're talking about incremental increases that will be the same across the board.

Your average shirt sold in america isn't made in china, shirt I'm wearing right now is made in cambodia.

Fortunately for this drop seller the tariff rates are nominal at this point on Cambodia.

If you can't afford an extra 10% on your cost of materials then your business model really sucks.
