Economics Thread

I recognize im preaching to the choir here, bc it appears we really only have one retarded idiot who thinks this is brilliant... and he's decided he doesnt debate anymore.

But still. Just read this. This is madness

How many resources will be diverted away from more productive means towards compliance? And finding workarounds? And rent seeking? And which types of businesses will be more equipped to absorb these costs? Hint, it’s not the mom & pop small businesses that MAGA loves to lionize in other contexts.

It’s not obvious how these drags will show up in overall statistics of a massive, complex economy, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist, no matter how much MAGA wants to take a victory lap over “see, the economist didn’t crater, stupid experts!”

Just like how one might cut off a finger and go on to lead a normal life with good blood pressure, low cholesterol, and a healthy weight. Congratulations that your vitals didn’t collapse…you’re still a moron for cutting off your finger, and the costs still outweigh whatever imaginary gains you think were accrued.

Employment to Population Ratio:

July 2024 60.0%
June 2025 59.7%
July 2025 59.6%

Where have all the workers gone...long time passing...

Employment to population ratio at its lowest level in 10 years (outside the covid period and its immediate aftermath)

where have all the workers gone...someone should check on grandma and grandpa to see how long ago their diaper was last changed

I think railroads are a very good analogy. Everyone understood their potential as a driver of growth. But the details were murky. So a lot of unprofitable railroads were built and they were very much associated with boom-and-bust cycles in all sorts of places around the world. It seems to me that AI is going to be even more transformative but the details are even murkier.
