Yeah, but if small businesses can’t come to the White House and shower Trump with gifts and compliments, like Tim Cook/Apple, do they even deserve to remain in business?

We have 4% unemployment and despite what my friends on the left will admit, we have a very generous welfare state.

People don’t really go hungry in this country. People have housing. We have the most upward mobility in the world. It’s not perfect but we have it well here

Can you point me to another country that has the market domestically that the US has? How about that market plus our wealth of natural resources? How about all that and our comparative IQ advantage against other nations (on the lower end of the bands)?

This is where the Ls fail because you pretend these are all the same control experiments

We don't have "free" trade with China or hardly any country these days.

We do trade with China with a bunch of restrictions and taxes and tariffs... and I support that over the alternative of not trading with them or any other country.

I believe shutting off trade with China overnight would decimate the Americans you claim to care so much about. But I suppose we could always make up for it by just sending them free checks

And a dozen or so posts me saying free trade is the best policy, as far back as 2013, but those didn't explicitly say they we do not have free trade today. But as a reminder, I want us to get out of NAFTA because it is too restrictive

That’s an example of what you want me to feel good about. The same issues I’m talking about with the US has happened all throughout the western world as free trade was pushed as a way to reduce total comp on company’s income statements.

What are the minimum domestic market size + minimum natural resource abundance + minimum collective national IQ standards that are apparently necessary requirements for tariffs to work? Because apparently the argument is that no other country now, or ever, has met them. And even if one ever did, it wouldn’t count because most of recorded world history was pre-COVID, and pre-Chinese slave labor. Both of which we’ve concluded invalidate any and all trade data. LMAO.

Yes - (aside from your silly Covid point). That’s how this works as the global economy / technology changes.

You try to make comparison equivalent to adding fractions with different denominators without doing a LCM.

But you’ll be quick to dismiss an era of prosperity in our country where more protectionist policies were practiced and ruined by unfettered capitalism.
 
the biggest welfare state in the world, with interventionist policies on all global trade, with regulations reaching over 100,000 pages, with over 40 different federal taxes, with hundreds of subsidized industries... I can go on and on
