Economics Thread

I’ll leave it to the creators of truflation to respond to these critiques as some may be valid. What I see is the figure front running government produce results but trending in the same direction.

There is no way anyone can say, well I suppose the health care experts would, that change in prices of items quantified YOY isn’t the best way to measure price movements.

This is like when teachers would chastise you for using Wikipedia as a reference. The type of person who becomes a top commenter in the AskEconomics subreddit is probably about as close to the type of person who creates their own inflation tracking system as you’re ever going to find in this world. This isn’t some blue-haired idiot posting about social justice. It’s also a post from a time when Truflation would have been telling you that Biden was keeping prices low.

I was thinking the other day how much im kicking myself for not creating an economic database that basically just says everything is amazing. Bc I know the MAGA folks would eat it up and push it like crazy.

My first intro to truflation was from thethe like 4 weeks ago. But since then, the entire MAGA online universe is citing it basically daily as gospel

(Not saying thats what truflations goal was, but clearly an audience easy to monetize)

Did Biden defeat inflation back in 2023?

According to thethe’s methodology, he most certainly did.

YoY the prices didn’t increase as rapidly from the bird peak in 2022. That was always reported. Trump did even better than that despite highest tariffs in 80 years.

Prices of goods don’t lie.
So you’re telling me you’re all in on a metric that had parts of 2023 and 2024 (into 2025) all below 2%?

I had a feeling there would be a big pushback to truflation eventually. It’s make the health care experts look awful.

Proof is in the pudding and the pudding is real prices of goods tracked daily to see movements.

Do you agree Biden solved inflation then before he left office? (I believe that chart says 1.3% in January 2025)

Again, was the proof in the pudding the last two years? You cannot both hold that Truflation is accurate today and that Trump took over an economy in shambles due to runaway inflation from Biden.
