Wilson is a bad mayor.

But it is also worth noting that Washington state has one of the most regressive tax systems in the country (up there with Florida) and that the recently enacted tax on incomes above $1 million is a relatively small step toward making it less regressive.
There’s other ways to make a tax system less regressive besides creating new taxes

Hard to do with a sales tax. A lot of other states, including some red states, tax income.
Fair enough. I just find the framing that the goal of creating new tax is to make it regressive is odd. Taxing the millionaire while not providing tax relief to the middle class doesn’t really help the middle class.

Tax relief is one way of helping the middle class. Providing services is another. The tax is expected to raise $3-4 billion a year. According to legislative summaries this will be used for:

  • K–12 education
  • child care and early learning
  • health care programs
  • school meals
  • other general fund services
  • expansion of the Working Families Tax Credit (Washington’s version of the EITC)
  • tax reductions for lower-income families and some small businesses
One notable design feature is that a large share of the revenue is supposed to be recycled back into tax relief: roughly 40% in the first year, rising toward nearly half later, according to the governor’s office.

Oooof… $4.49 for regular today. That was the cheapest price in town.
I'm fortunate to be able to take public transportation to work. I have to imagine this is having real bite in parts of the country where people have to drive long distances for whatever reason.

Starbucks sells overpriced shit coffee and overpriced lousy food.
Moving forward i would guess these franchises are and will be easily replaceable .
As they are in my locale

My last prediction was HRC in a landslide --- Starbucks leaving Seattle reminds me of Boston Market and other by gone restaurant business chain " institutions"

It is possible to pass these tax increases and fund services without taking an antagonistic stance against people and businesses. Wilson targeting Starbucks and Mamdani going after Ken Griffin are stupid moves. Starbucks provides incredible value to the Seattle area and Griffin does the same in NY City. They should be appreciated not demonized.
