Economics Thread

it's amazing you have takes like this while holding yourself up at the know it all math/economics guy on this board

you can have and make more money than the rest of the world and still be poor here

it's all relative

also, that doesn't excuse shortcomings from this country

Is there any country that is not poor?

Is there any country that is not poor?

let's review Mr Vonnegut's comment
.................................................

“America is the wealthiest nation on Earth,

but its people are mainly poor,

and poor Americans are urged to hate themselves…

Every other nation has folk traditions of men who

were poor but extremely wise and virtuous,

and therefore more estimable than anyone with

power and gold.

No such tales are told by the American poor.”

— Kurt Vonnegut

..................................................

not sure how your question relates to the man's comment.
But yes, Northern European Countries,Switzerland Scandinavia. Where they do have a rich folk heritage.
Japan ?

I take it you are not familiar with Vonnegut ----
Not just a Wiki familiarity but have read any of his works ?

Trump supporters can say this crash isnt his fault all they want but given his general incompetence I can only believe this would have been far better handled by literally anyone else. I dont know if this would have been better or worse than anyone else but no one has less benefit of the doubt to me than Donald Trump.

this was a good call from.... checks notes...... trumps Commerce Secretary

Not quite following what the issue is with the statement.

He is saying quite clearly that this might incentivize a future shift in the supply chain away from foreign countries. That rings like a true statement to me

The median household income of this country is 688% of the median household income of the world.

If americans are mainly poor, how would we describe the rest of the world?

This doesn't tell us anything in the abstract. The cost of living is also much lower in other countries. When I lived in Thailand, I rented a 3 bedroom house on a river for $130 a month, and people thought I was crazy for paying that much. A meal from a street vendor was $0.67.

I lived extremely comfortably over there, but the same salary here would cover about half my rent for the year. Poverty is always relative.

i already explained that to him

wish we could have met for a drink last time i was in Thailand.

Analysts predicting 15+% unemployment and -30% growth in the second quarter of this year. If Trump loses in November he will go down as the biggest failure in modern politics. We have had a Republican President for 11 of the last 27 years and on their watch we got 9/11, multiple trillion dollar quagmires in Iraq and Afghanistan, the economic collapse in 08, massive unprecedented debt spending as 4 years of Trump is looking at 10 trillion dollars in debt spending, and the worst pandemic in 100 years and the largest market crash possibly in history. Trump yards can blame others all they want but I know dn well of these things happened under a Democrat President they would never shut up about it. I understand some people might be offended but when we play stupid games we win stupid prizes. I cant 100% say what would have happened under anyone else but I have more confidence in the guy at the drive thru at McDonalds than I do Donald Trump. He is already bitching and moaning about an oversight committee looking into the pandemic response. If all these lies Trump uses to blame Obama are true guess what would be uncovered for all the public to see in that oversight comittee....

You know what Bernie Sanders answer to how we would pay for Medicare for all? By not electing Republicans anymore. Not only would that prevent them from any more trillion dollar boondoggles but when Republicans arwnt on power they all of a sudden get extremely fiscally conservative. If Biden wins he could run half the debt Trump has and they will still scream bloody murder about it.

It's not just Schiff either, there's bipartisan support for an investigation committee now.

When that time comes, are we all ready to watch Jim Jordan again vehemently and ferociously protect Trump on the committee the way he didn't protect those teenage wrestlers?

Its flat out bat **** crazy not to do it because half the focus would be on what went wrong and the other half would be on how can we do better in the future.

The more you guys get wrong the more stupid **** you throw up against a wall. Its like you enjoy the embarrassment.

How's the Michael Flynn case going? Still a convicted criminal? When can we expect Durham to start prosecutions or are we just going to forget about that now that the Trump crash is upon us.

@julio3000 I just went back and read the first few pages of this thread (to page 10) from a couple years ago.

I appreciate the back and forth we had. Hope we can get back to that level of debate rather than the constant gotya attempts.
