Given the low-wage labor market this really only says something if these jobs actually existed in the first place and the displaced workers haven’t found other minimum wage jobs.

We hoped President Biden had merely misspoken during last week’s NATO press conference when he mentioned capping rents. Alas, no. On Tuesday he unveiled a nationwide rent-control plan, another classic White House policy contradiction: Subsidize housing, then discourage its development.

At least the Biden WH acknowledged this would have to go through Congress, so this isn’t likely to be the student loan debt burden transfer to buy votes scheme part II
Ok. So it’s at best its even, and at worst large net negative. Good plan
I won’t hold my breath on that bud
Want to lower rents organically?
Deport 5-10m illegals.
Problem solved.
Nope. No one is looking to live where migrants live. Migrants live multiple families to a single family dwelling. Illegals are in even a worse scenario because they only can stay places who are the slumlords of slumlords.
Want to solve the problem, regulate and tax the **** out of AirBnb, Vrbo, etc. Already boomers were buying up houses to rent out as a retirement plan of selling off the real estate. But now instead of renting them to people to live in, they can make similar money renting it on AirBnb and not put as much wear, it's an easy choice for them.
Yeah, placing the blame for the current housing/rental market at the poor people is tremendously funny.
20MCan't wait for the takes when 5M illegals are deported and wages skyrocket while rents/housing prices go down.
The takes will be glorious.
Basic supply/demand concepts here boys.

Poor people that get subsidized by the government to pay their higher price rents?
Do you know anything about the real estate market?
The “higher rent prices” part is my point of contention here.
Its one real estate market in total that works in price brackets.
When you subsidize one piece for poor people it imapcts the whole pie.
And when companies buy up properties and then charge outrageous rents, it does the same.
Let me ask you - Do you think companies are conspiring to set rent prices or is it dictacted by supply/demand concepts.
FYI - I fully support restricting quantity of real estae owership by one company.
Still doesn't make your above point all the more ridiculous.
