Economics Thread

Can't ever tell who you're perceived enemies are anymore... is it your view that I am against cutting federal workforce?

No - my claim is that you guys aren't seeing hte full picture of the changes that Trump and team are making to the US economy to be more beneficial to Americas people / Its present / and its future.

All of these initiatives are intertwined.

If and when he ever chooses to actually follow through on his tarrifs the American worker will suffer

Not on tariffs with China - And only if you have an overly simplistic view that focuses on immaterial increases on costs of cheap imports while things like groceries/gas/taxes are reduced for Americans.

Why do you honestly think this.

Let's look at the largest labor force in america, it's retail workers. home health/personal aids. Depending on who you back. We import most of our goods from China.

I'm all for reducing our need on CHina, but do that via targetted tax incentives and grants, not by throwing tariffs that will harm the majority of the job force. If Walmart has to raise prices and people go there less, that means less hours for the cashiers there which means less jobs.

Step 1. Raise prices on inports to force manufacturing jobs in the US

Step 2. Raise prices on us goods bc wages are higher

Step 3. Replace the US jobs with robots to bring down costs

They should probably stop putting that guy on tv. This is the third or fourth time I’ve seen some clip of him saying the kind of **** that gets guillotines built. The others at least seem to understand they need to pretend they care about the working class in all this.

LOL

I've been bringing this point up for a couple months now and I've been told that my perspective is colored by my personal success and that I've lost touch with the average person.

Hopefully the average person can ramp up on robotics engineering when they get replaced by Elon's Optimus robots.

Strongly disagree. This is the only guy in that administration who's making any sense.

IMO, they should just lean into the national defense argument. I think you could sell me on the concept of tariffs for national defense reasons, and people hate China enough that they'll stomach higher prices if it means we’re no longer reliant on them. Just stop gaslighting us with nonsense about how this will be an economic boon.

Oh, by no means do I mean that universally. I just mean he’s going out there and giving away the game on national tv in a way that does not seem politically advantageous for this administration.

“The economy is actually great, guys” is not a part of the DNC playbook I’d be stealing from, Donald.

Man you fall for all of it

Fake image? If not, I’m not sure what I’m falling for here. It’s a bad political message. Trump isn’t responsible for the price of eggs, but my point is that pretending the economy is working when it’s not working is a path to electoral loss.

Wait so it was working in January with Joe but now now? How’s that work

No, the economy has not been good, particularly for the working class, under Biden or Trump. Biden tried to tout a strong economy in the last election cycle despite it being not good, and it did not go well. Trump would be wise to not try that strategy.

I agree that Trump.shpuld not repeat the Biden the mistake of telling Americans how good things are despite their actual struggles

patience grasshopper...booms take time

Asked by Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo whether he was expecting a recession this year, Trump said: “I hate to predict things like that. There is a period of transition, because what we’re doing is very big. We’re bringing wealth back to America. That’s a big thing. And there are always periods of, it takes a little time. It takes a little time, but I think it should be great for us.”

sometimes you gotta break a few eggs and all that jazz...metaphor for our times: breaking a few eggs costs more than it used to

“If you look at China, they have a 100-year perspective. We have a quarter. We go by quarters, and you can’t go by that. You have to do what’s right,” Trump said about the stock market. “What we’re doing is we’re building a tremendous foundation for the future.”
