In an interview with NBC News, President Trump said repeatedly that he “couldn’t care less,” if auto manufacturers raise prices due to his tariffs.

He also said that he hopes they raise prices.

The president says he believes that will just lead consumers to buy American made cars.

If yasharli says it you can bank it

This is the poll result that should keep Mike Johnson and John Thune up at night. The one possible flaw in running on a campaign of instantly saving the economy with your big business brain is that you might get people to believe you can actually do that overnight. Making things more expensive through tariffs and laying off a bunch of federal workers is astonishingly not bound to bring about that outcome, and I think congressional Republican leadership might want to stop looking at those angry town halls as Democratic operations to sneer at and instead as a cause to reflect on whether or not Trump is lining them up for slaughter next year if they don’t actually lower the burden on the working class somehow.

This is a common but such a weird way to respond to a journalist reporting on a Trump quote, because you could literally just watch the clip where he says those stupid and/or crazy things basically verbatim.

The chances that context is ignored here are high.

The media treats Trump like ****, and he does in return. So I don’t expect any real reporting either way.

I don’t hang on any comment either and hyperventilate about it.

And also- look who posted it

Tarriffs are great. They will help us. And we also have to bailout all the industries we're implementing them on

America first means asking Americans to pay more for what they buy, then taking their tax dollars to pay off favored industries harmed by the policies that caused said rise in prices.

I don't know what to think about Trump's strategy, but I don't think what we've been doing for years is working, so I'll keep an open mind.

If we want to associate a "strategy" to this, the best I can think of is that he is wanting to plunge us into a recession to get lower interest rates.

Mind you - i think that's a terrible strategy. But the only thing I can make sense of

I’ll say this for Trump: getting the “taxation is theft” crowd to cheer on wide-ranging tax hikes on the American people to increase government revenue is just a masterclass in political messaging.

I have to say the people who are surprised at what Trump is doing and have changed their views about what to expect are idiots. A blind man could have seen what was coming from a mile away on a foggy evening.

Corollary 1: Those idiots deserve every bit of what they are about to get.

Corollary 2: The rest of us not so much.

This is where I disagree with you. Economic forces are indeed very predictable in most cases, but you need to have the knowledge of those forces to begin with. If you don’t know how tariffs work and the only people telling you the truth about them are the same ones telling you they saved the economy that still isn’t working for you, I don’t see that as a personal failing. It’s further complicated by the fact that there’s a sizable population of people who are unlikely to have received a strong education in Economics being told by their manufacturing employers or unions that these new tariffs will help them.

Welp pulled the trigger on the car. Just in time for trunp to announce he's canceling the tarrifs.

That brilliant bastart. Enjoy the q1 GDP boost

It’s entirely possible that this Trump term helps China on the international stage more than any other Presidency.

One of my faculty friends got her Lexus on my advice. She promised to let me drive it on Sunday. Imports have boomed the last couple months in anticipation of the tariffs.
