Economics Thread

So now our government colludes with Saudi Arabia and Russia on behalf of the oil bidness while ordinary Americans pick up the tab.

The irony of Sanders leaving the center stage of the presidential race right as the cataclysmic economic consequences of the public health lockdown slam America is hard to bear. The numbers out there seem staggering — nearly 17 million jobless claims in just three weeks — but they’re really not when I think of how all the family members or their friends I know under 35 are now suddenly unemployed or “furloughed” or struggling to pick up enough hours. Long before this happened, Sanders (and others) were out there warning about the stunning fragility of an economy where 40% have reported they don’t have even $400 saved if an emergency hits.

You could say I am to the left of whatever the Republican party is now, but I dont think they moved further to the right, they just moved to crazy town. I will gladly be opposite of wherever side that is.

True. Unless you want to equate conservatism with corruption, incompetence, venality, chaos, and a fondness for disinformation and lies. Which no reasonable person (conservative or not) would.

It has nothing to do with the republican party

It has everything to do with outright embracing socialist policy and candidates.

yeah, cajun, this is the real issue. sturg has assuredly called Obama, a straightforward center-left politician, a socialist or communist any number of times since 2008. His frame of reference is nonsense, but from that perspective saying something nice about Obama makes you basically a tankie.

A generation of credulous Young Republicans like sturg had hot garbage poured into their brains and now a good portion of them are like this.

Barack Obama mandated the entire country buy a product or risk jail time

But sure... hurl your insults if makes you feel better

I'd love to take a look at key issues and compare the two parties stances from 20 years ago until now.

Its absolutely hysterical for anyone to say the right is the party that shifted.

Lol, thanks for the immediate proof. Yeah, Obama is a real Stalinist by slightly adjusting the taxes of people who don't purchase health insurance. The reality-distortion field you live in is unbelievably strong. Let me know the first guy doing a solid ten for failing to follow the mandate.

Can't wait for another decade of "the economy is doomed unless we return to gold standard" and "taxes are literally armed robbery." Very real-world stuff.

IMO - the Democratic party has moved left and the Republican party has moved...somewhere. Not sure exactly how I'd characterize it. But they've definitely moved from where they were 5, 10, 25 years ago.

What would happen if a person didnt buy the mandated insurance, and refused to pay the fine?

Anybody excited to get their corona cash in the next two days? What are you spending it on? I think I'm going to get a couple of guns.
