You could be right. For someone who has been involved in politics all his adult life, I'll admit to not knowing the rules on this one. I just remember from the history books that the Jefferson/Burr issue in 1800 brought about some changes (or was it the 1824 fiasco?).

I believe SenorNumeroUno is correct. I think they have to pick from the top 3 vote getters, which would figure to be Trump/Hilldog or Hilldog/Trump, and Gary Johnson and since the House is controlled by the Repubs you would think they'd pick Trump but if it comes down to that I wouldn't be surprised if they picked Hilldog, if nothing else than to give their "collective bird" to the guy who hijacked their party and offended just about every one of them in the process. Plus, since Hilldog it owned by most of the same special interests they pander to they could all lament the country's fate together over a nice big cocktail of Citibank (or whichever one they prefer) champagne.

Oh and it was 1824, the "Corrupt Bargain" between John Quincy Adams, the #2 vote getter and the then Speaker of the House Henry Clay, the #4 vote getter, to screw the #1 vote getter Andy Jackson and Clay used his influence as Speaker to encourage them to vote for Adams, with Adams making Clay his Secretary of State, which back then was considered like "the next likely president in training" job. By the way the #3 vote getter, a man named Crawford was out of the picture because of health reasons. As much as I hate our current 2 party system, the election of 1824 was such a clusterpfark in that one party system that they proved that a one party system sucks even worse than our 2 party system, which isn't easy.

And Henry Clay was never able to wash himself of the fallout from the "Corrupt Bargain." The antebellum period following The Era of Good Feelings is my favorite era in American history. I think Schlesinger's The Age of Jackson is a must read (although I think Schlesinger imputes some things to Jackson that don't really hold up).

Last minute predictions. Trump wins New Hampshire and Michigan, Hillary wins Florida and Nevada, and North Carolina and Colorado are close enough for recounts.

I despise making state-by-state predictions, but I think Trump takes Florida and North Carolina handily ... flips Michigan. New Hampshire is a real possibility.

Colorado/New Mexico/Nevada intrigue me in general, I think he'll take one - I wouldn't be shocked if it were Colorado. Pennsylvania will be close.

A tie would be literally the worst possible outcome of this election in my view. Even though Trump would likely win in the House, I can't imagine a more castrated mandate to lead.

Good on you, man, whatever that's worth. I have always respected your insight but I thought you were living in a bubble...that was an error in perspective on my part. Wow.
