Erlin DFAed; Newk Back

Let me guess...

Newk made some minor mechanical adjustment, looked great in a couple sim games, and is now slated to start a couple games.

Certainly not something to get particularly excited about UNLESS...

That adjustment has allowed him to throw enough strikes to get through the lineup ONCE. Now that Snitker's gotten used to having to go get his SP by (or before) the 4th inning, maybe he's starting to understand. If he has agreed not to leave Newk/Wilson/Touki/Ynoa in to face ANY part of the opposing lineup a second time, it's pretty tough to argue that they're not better options than Erlin and Milone.

Newk's used to starting - with Hamels, Fried, and Folty back next week you can now use Tomlin to piggyback with Hamels and Newk until Hamels gets stretched out enough to give you 5 or 6 innings.

Not saying our pitching woes are suddenly "cured" (by any stretch), but I will say I feel better about having the staff we have now rather than one with Erlin, Milone, and Dayton and Jackson being used in the later innings part of the time.

To me this is all about having a long man in the pen considering how overused the pen has been the past week (and Erlin just pitched).

I wouldn’t read anything into this about Newk specifically.

can't be any worse. but I've never seen a rotation with such promise just implode all over itself like this.

Now listed as a RH. Now you will all know why you fear the night. Now you will know why you cower before the storm. Now you will know who was really Coppy's right arm. Now you will know.

The transaction page is saying Newk was optioned to the alternative training site... I'll be interested to see if this is legit or not.
