Extension Talks With Swanson Reportedly Underway

Have to throw out the 2020 season - for everybody, not just Dansby.

When you do that, you realize this is the first time in his career he's produced better than a 98 wRC+ full year - and there are still almost 6 weeks left for him to potentially regress back towards his career norms.

Once again you are using arbitrary endpoints.

The fact is Swanson has played virtually every game since the 2020 season. He's logged 1454 plate appearances and has a 109 WRC+ in that span.

I do t know anything about our budget these days, but I’d rather sign Degrom and let Dansby walk. Get a pick, lose a pick.

We could give Grissom first shot, then we have Shewmake/Conley/Waddell that all could be major league ready by some point next year if they decide he’s an OF

Are we really going to be able to afford DeGrom at his 45+ million yearly asking price? Even if we could, I doubt we'd be able to outbid the Mets.

After these extensions, would there be money for Correa? Guess you could not pick up Morton, but then you need money for that spot

I still think we could afford Correa. We wanna be a top 5 payroll team and most of the team is under control for the long term so AA knows what he has and doesn’t.

I wasn't - I used his whole career. That said, this still makes the same point.

A player that is 9% above league average is worth $150 million? Wow.

Since 2020, Dansby is:
1. 9% above league average has a hitter (13th among SS)
2. Fifth among short stops in OOA (4th most defensive value per Fangraphs)
3. Fourth most baserunning value

He's your quintessential very good at everything player.

And at 5 years/$100 million plus an option would be a very good sign and a cornerstone.

Anything more than that is an overpay.

That would be between 220-240. Where's it at currently for next season?

157 pre-arb. Minter, Matzek and Soroka, Fried only ones arb-eligible. Payroll def gonna be superrrr high next year Dansby or not.

They said the Braves expect to have a top 5 payroll soon. And with the amount of money coming off the books this offseason it is quite possible we go after an ace pitcher or stud SS

I don't think AA is going to sign a prime pitcher to a market deal. His sweet spot seems to be paying market AAV on shorter deals to elder statesmen SP.

I don’t think AA *should* sign a prime pitcher to a market deal. Not with the injury risk and 3-4 aces (Max, Kyle, Strider, Soroka) on staff plus Charlie….

Guys I’m clearly not a reporter.
I made up 6/150. That said I do think it is reasonable to think that is what dansby is looking for. I didn’t say I’d offer or Braves would/should offer.

But:
Deal isn’t signed.
Baez and story got 6/140. Why wouldn’t dansby people expect more?

Me personally, I’m not doing that. I’m 5/100 with some team options. I don’t think many are beating that given the other ss in the market.

The Acuna/Albies combo has been over 30% of our production based off Fwar the last 3 years.
This year they are 13%.

This is a deep lineup that has not had its normal Acuna/Ozzie production. We can survive without Dansby.

Been super quite since this started. I’m guessing they’ve talked but Swansons number is a lot higher than AA’s. Do they find common ground?

I think Dansby is the odd man out. My guess is that he and his agent will want to get paid like he's a 5+ WAR player.

Replacing him wouldn't be easy and if Anthopoulos envisions negotiations similar to Freeman's, I would hope he would pull the plug earlier in the off-season as opposed to painting himself into a corner.
