Fangraphs - A Summer Without Sellers

Still wouldnt trade Maybin, no lock they get anyone great to replace him.

AJ, Uribe, CJ maybe.

Perhaps JJ/Grilli since teams are always in need of pen help.

Maybe one of the starters for a legit bat but i dont know who would offer something like that.

So basically you want to trade Uribe for something and nothing else. No one is gonna take CJ for anything significant. AJ may net us a super fringe prospect. Like some 24 year old in A ball.

I think we miss a BIG opportunity if we don't sell and the market is like what this article suggests.

Yes it will be unpopular. And no I would not trade anyone just to do it.

But you have to let ppl know that Maybin, Grilli, Johnson, Avialan, CJ (who I'd dump in almost an scenario), Uribe, KJ are available.

I think some team would take on Chris Johnson at the deadline if we agreed to give cash to pay next year's salary - or much of it.

Which is where that Cahill money woulda been nice

Haven't we been over this? We still probably have the money to do it if we want. I don't know why you keep incorrectly insisting that Cahill is stopping us from eating CJ's money. I think it's more likely no one is willing to give us anything at all for CJ AND want us to eat the money, which would be silly for us to do.

I WOULD trade Maybin if the right deal is offered, but I severely doubt a worthwhile package would be.

Maybin is the perfect trade candidate. I didn't list him because I think he'll be hurt come that time. But Maybin cannot stay healthy. He may have turned it around (really need a bigger sample) but more so than his offensive production, his issue has been health. Only way I'd keep Maybin is if someone took Markakis and we could move maybin to RF where he'll run a bit less and maybe stay healthier.

If we can flip Maybin into any kind of legit prospect we should do it.

If we get a long term catcher, we could tack on CB to CJ and find a team who needs a corner IF and really needs a long term catcher.

If I'm the GM, there's no way I don't trade Maybin if I can move his full contract. I'm not taking the risk of him reverting and us being on the hook. If he keeps hitting until the trade deadline I think he'll suddenly be viewed as a bargain around the league. A center fielder who plays good defense, hits .300, has decent power, and great speed would cost a ton as a free agent. If Maybin keeps it up he'd be a bargain for the next two years. So I think we'd have teams lining up to take him. I think we could get rid of all of his contract and get something decent in return.

I don't think anyone is taking CJ without us picking up the tab or taking a bad contract in return. I don't see us doing either.

Uribe might be of some interest. He'll only cost a team a few million and would be a steady veteran down the stretch. I don't see us getting more than the ubiquitous live arm for him.

If we keep Grilli or Johnson I'll be disappointed.

we need to be honest and say this is a very unlikely playoff team and zero chance do anything in playoff team.

use our unexpected success to deal from strength. don't give anyone away, but see if we can take advantage of a market shortage to get someone. You never know when someone will be willing to push all of their chips into the middle of the table.

If you get a chance to get a big time guy you have to be open to it this year. Because next year we want to be the first year of a new streak of being in the thick of it every year.

I also have no interest in dealing Miller. While his sub-2 ERA is not sustainable, he has taken a step forward this year and it's easy to forget he's only 24. I'd have to be absolutely blown away to deal him.

Calm down man.

I never suggested we can't do it still..

I would hate to trade Maybin because I think he's valuable at a good price through the rest of his contract but for the right price of course I'd consider trading him...I got faith in the FO though so we will just sit back and see what happens I reckon...
