He should be projected to walk a little more and K a little less but also with significantly less pop. Cespedes was better and at a younger age in Cuba than Olivera, so I don't know why that would change here.

There is also a history of Cubans making a big splash early in the majors and then settling down to their true value. Cespedes' true value is a .750-.800ish OPS. If Olivera is not better than that, we got hosed.
 
Man... Blue Jays adding Price and Tulo... that's going to be a hard team to beat... I don't remember the last time one team took on two players of that caliber at the deadline

As are the Royals. But this is the problem with giving up significant future pieces for rentals, no matter how close you think you are - other teams are also adding pieces. I would never, ever, under any circumstances, give up one of my top prospects for a rental. Period.

The Royals and Blue Jays have both added significant pieces but at great cost. The chances are pretty good that neither wins the World Series, and the moves they made really don't increase their individual chances that much.

I disagree with you. At the end of the day they are just prospects. Just 1 example, obviously (there are plenty others) but the trade of Sebathia for Laporta, Brantley, Jackson, and Bryson. Brantley is a solid player (1 crazy flue season out of nowhere), but if you told me I get an ace for the playoff drive for a 2.5 win player for 6 seasons, I take that anyday. I'm not saying I'd trade a top 20 prospect for a rental, but I wouldn't hesitate to trade a lower 50 prospect with a lack of huge upside like Peraza/etc.
 
I'm actually all for trading Peraza despite his high ranking (poor walk rate, hasn't developed power) and Wood (we've got plenty of depth, although tough to trade a guy under this much control and so effective) but the haul should be great. We don't NEED to trade these guys, I think that's the key.
 
I'm hoping the deal falls through...I'm not as dead set against it as most, but I'd rather keep Wood and Peraza. This trade doesn't seem to be about rebuilding and they need to continue to go that direction.

Have to agree. Hope this deal as currently structured falls apart. Just have a reason to think the dodgers are hoping we sign off on it to dump olivera on us.

Problem is what kind of return can you get for wood now that people are seeing what we agreed to do?
