Felix to sit out the season

Per multiple reports on twitter. Assume that Kyle Wright is in the lead for the 5th spot now. Barring anything else, looks like: Soroka, Fried, Folty, Hamels, Wright.

Do we really even need 5 starters? Roll with 4 and throw in a reliever if needed for the 5th spot.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling this won’t be the only sit out we have. Especially with the Freddie news, players are really going to start thinking hard about whether they will play or not.

And a whole lot more to lose.

Pretty easy choice for players who've made plenty of money to me.

Exactly. He made his millions, was playing for the league minimum this year, and was going to make what...maybe 10 starts this season? Not exactly a great set of circumstances for his rebirth. Sit out the year and decide whether to come back next year or just hang it up.

Newk will get the first shot. If I had made Felix’s money...I would go to the house also. It would be almost pointless. It’s basically the 5th spot and surely out of the crop of young pitchers, one will take advantage.

I don’t disagree just seemed like him playing could have potentially set him up for a payday. Hopefully the Braves can re-sign him on the cheap this offseason.

I highly doubt King Felix - or any other player in their mid-30s for that matter - are staring a big payday in the face anytime soon, particularly following a season that's going to be as crazy as this one (if there is one).

The game has simply changed that much - just all but impossible to see any of today's GMs lining up to offer a guy like Hernandez 3 years and $45-$60 million even if he had made 10 amazing starts this season.

Again I don’t disagree but now coming back next year he’ll be in the same spot he was this year but only a year older. I think it would be reasonable to expect a good year could have set him up for a 1 year deal in the 10 mil area. I get not wanting to take the risk though.

man, this sucks

was really looking forward to seeing him in a braves uniform

I was pretty profoundly skeptical of Felix's ability to pitch at an acceptable level this year, so I don't see this as much of a loss.
