FG Mid-Season Top 100

Very disappointed in this content by FG. A list with no FVs and very little info as to why guy moved up or down.

It's almost like he spent so much time on the preseason lists he only did the bare minimum for these updates.

In particular I don't like that this has Jimenez over Acuna. Jimenez has the (slightly) better power, hit tools are pretty comparable, but Acuna blows him out of the water both defensively and on the basepaths. All that while being over a year younger at a higher level.

To EL's defense, he does his major update in the offseason. It goes without saying these lists take a lot of work, especially when you are a one man show. We all know he will have FV grades with his offseason list. I would rather he omit FV grades rather than assign them haphazardly.

Wouldn't it stand to reason he must have FV grades for everyone if he is able to rank them?

FVs as best I can cobble together data:

5. Ronald Acuna 65 ($70M)
12. Ozzie Albies 60 ($60M)
21. Kyle Wright 60 ($34M)
42. Luiz Gohara 55 ($22M)
65. Kolby Allard 55 ($22M)
67. Kevin Maitan 55 ($38M)
69. Ian Anderson 55 ($22M)
72. Mike Soroka 55/50 ($14M-$22M)
74. Joey Wentz 50 ($14M)
100. Cristian Pache 50 ($20M)

While I think he has Soroka a bit low, and Gohara a bit high, I can't disagree with this list too much.

The biggest agreements I have are Wright clearly ahead of the other pitching prospects, and Albies/Acuna ahead of all pitchers.

That's a good point. My counter would be that he posted this list because he was pressed for content and that he hasn't solidified his FV rankings yet, so he doesn't want to box himself into a corner for his major update (you and I both know the plebs would flood his chat with questions about what happened to make a players grade change during the offseason). More than once I have noticed in his chats where he says a player Is a "55 maybe 60", e.g. He said this about Gohara IIRC.

In other words, he posted this list for a fun, light read for the fans during a time when prospect content tends to dry up rather quickly.

I would guess he doesn't spend a lot of time on the 'midseason' one. The preseason list seems to be factoring in pretty heavily on this one, which is what makes me think he used that as a baseline and made adjustments off of that.

For people to get upset about list is preposterous. Remember - it in no way affects the performance of the players on it

This is the purpose of all lists for anything, ever. It's for discussion purposes. I think it is dumb that Longenhagen has Eloy Jimenez ahead of Acuna. Which is why he published it, to get people discussing who is better and agreeing/disagreeing with him.

Does it mean anything? Nope. Is it fun? Sure.

these lists certainly aren't easy and every fan base ends up with some minor --- see what I did there? --- gripes.... .mine biggest takeaway is that people are still too low on Soroka.

I think Soroka is our best pitching prospect. Period. Maybe its Kyle Wright, but I want to see a full season of him before I say that.

I think the lists are illustrative of the strength of the organization.

Yeah - it's fun to debate who should be ahead of who, but to say "i'm livid" is kind of absurd. Who cares?

Meanwhile, regarding the list, I'm a bit concerned that so many of our guys fall outside of the top 50... those guys don't usually hit like we hope they will.
