FIFA World Cup 2014

I dunno who's likely to win. Both teams are very good Bosnia has the better top talent, but that being said, Nigeria matches up well against them. And they certainly have their own share of talent.

Sooo, that was bad for us right? We should still be good if we beat Portugal, but what about other results? Anyone want to break it down for me? :) lol

There's lots of scenarios where we make it through. Win tomorrow and we're through. Beat Germany we're through. 2 draws, we're through. If we get a draw and a loss, depending on the results of our loss and the Ghana/Portugal we still can get through with 4 points.

Germany winning would have been better for reults with US for getting through, but a draw is better for the US's shot of getting the 1 seed and playing the weak winner of group H.

Depends.

The glass-half-fullers are happy with the result. Because we now have a chance to win the group and ultimately have an easier match-up in the quarter-finals.

But the glass-half-empty'rs know that we now have to perform better than tie-loss in the next two matches or otherwise we still could miss out on the quarter-finals.

If Germany would have beaten Ghana, then a tie / loss in the next two would have clinched a quarterfinals appearance. But now, that's just not the case. Now rather than a tie tomorrow, a win is required to clinch.

Well a tie still is a good result for us. Especially if there are a lot of goals in the tie to set us op to get by on total goals scored. If we tie and Portugal wins against Ghana all we need to do to advance is not lose to Germany by more thna 4 goals. That said I want to win and eliminate the POrtuguese from the World Cup, cuz **** Ronaldo.

While I'm bummed that after watching primarily bad games lately I'll miss 2 likely good ones today. I'll be back for the Red White and Blue taking on Portugal. Words cannot truly explain how excited and also how nervous that I am. USA has many things going for them. Their form in 2014 has been excellent. THey've only lost one game, that weird half squad game against Ukraine in Cyprus. US's match today has the potential to be the biggest in my lifetime. If the US wins today they not only slay Ronaldo and beat a team that many expected to make the quarter finals, but we advance out of the group of death. Where the naysayers had us at best getting 1 point. The boost for American soccer would be the biggest I think I've ever seen. If you couple getting out of group when we totally weren't expected to, with potentially getting the one of the next 3 WC cycles we may see a rise in Soccer in the US that isn't just created by the rising hispanic population. I'm also Nervous cause while portugal is missing Pepe and Coentrau, we're missing the man who would exploit their absence the best in Jozy. I'll be really interested to see the lineup today. While Johannson's been the primary choice off the bench, Wondo seems to be the favored starter of the 2. So who does Klinsmann go with? Or does he do something random. Like say put Dempsey up top and go with 5 midfielders where Bradley, Zusi and Bedoya all support him. All I know is I'm hoping the US goes for 3 points. The Portuguese back has been weak. That said, I have no doubt in my mind that the US also has to have their fullbacks stay more honest than they were against Ghana because you can't give Nani and Ronaldo space.

My ideal lineup.

GK - Howard
RB (assuming Ronaldo on the left) - Chandler
CB - Cameron
CB - Besler
LB - Beasley (mirror the D if Ronaldo is coming from the other side
CDM - Beckerman (on Ronaldo's side)
LM - Jones (while playing Centrally, less support from Dempsey up top as he has to be the target man so he can't range back as much)
RM - Fabian (again mirror that midfield)
CM - Bradley (have to play a central but left mode to kind of buffer cover Nani
CF - Dempsey ( will need to get forward more as the release valve)
ST - Wondo (subbed out regardless of lead, draw or behind, bring on Johannson if we need goals, or Zusi/Davis and move him out wide if we don't)

Basic idea is to blitz Ronaldo as much as possible. He's hurt so you could argue I'm wasting players on a wounded animal but I'd rather put him down. For Portugal lately as ROnaldo goes so does portugal. The key seems to be frustrate Ronaldo, beat Portugal. Or at least Frustrate Ronaldo and draw against portugal. Last WC, Portugal scored 7 goals in 4 games. All 7 goals came against North Korea, they couldn't put the ball in the net vs Ivory Coast, Brazil, or Spain. If the US D holds strong, we should walk out the victors. Let's hope for some good possession play and to have the Portuguese chasing shadows in the sticky Amazon.

On that note, I'll leave you guys with this that's got me amped up for the day.

Looks like Dempsey is going to be alone up top and Zusi is coming in as an extra MF:

-------------Deuce--------------
----Bedoya----Bradley----Zusi----
---------Jones------Beckerman---
Beasley--Besler--Cameron--Johnson
-------------Howard---------------

Looks like Jurgen went with my something different idea. Personally I would have put CHandler to just shadow Ronaldo but I'll trust Jurgen.
