Fire Fredi......Hire Donnie Baseball

Fredi and his staff overachieved all year long. They deserved raises. Our extremely young pitching staff slipped a little in the playoffs but then they did get some very valuable experience. The FO may not be able to say it publicly but I think in private they are all congratulating each other on a job well done.

IMO, we didn't lose in the playoffs because Fredi pitched Carpenter, who has been nails all year with an ERA under 2.00. We lost because our team ERA was nearly 6.00.

How that translates to firing Fredi (and hiring Roger McDowell, Don Mattingly or anyone else) is beyond me. We lost because only Minor (and maybe Garcia) pitched well.

This, not to mention, we had a pathetic 3 starters with an OPS over .700 (Johnson, Gattis, and Freeman) and only 1 over .800 (Johnson who was in full BABIP mode). Normally huge in the playoffs Mac didn't hit a lick, Elliot shouldn't have made the playoff roster Johnson didn't hit a lick, Heyward and Justin were not good even if they made some key contributions at big moments.

The mistakes I pin on the FO and Fredi was going with Elliot in the postseason and going with Gattis. It's a mixed message. With Elliot vs Uggla you're going to side with defense over offense (though Uggla obviously wasn't an offensive force) then in the OF you go with defense over offense with Gattis over Bossman. It's that kind of not total thinking that hurts.

If Fredi was smart he would have either committed to offense or committed to defense. There was several missed balls in the OF in the series that the normal OF makes the plays on. Hell I think all 3 of AJ Ellis's doubles were playable by the normal OF. Or you go all offense and hope to outslug them.

I don't think Fredi is being blamed as the main or only reason we lost, but he helped at least a little IMO.

Pretty easy to acknowledge the bad pitching was part of it, too. I think some are acting like Fredi deserves no blame, which I don't agree with.

I think it was pretty easy to see Uggla would not have done anything in the post-season. He would have been eaten up by that pitching. Johnson gave us a better chance of even a dinky hit, or as a runner, and on defense.
