Thought this was interesting. Of all the pitchers in our system, Folty probably has the highest ceiling.

His issue will be containing his walks and homers. If he can limit that then the sky is the limit for him. The stuff is there.

Got a long ways to go before we really know what we've got. But there's never been any doubt he has absolute front line potential. He's been fun to watch the last two games and I've said for a while he could end up being the best young pitcher we have. Again, long ways to go.

Has the best stuff on the current staff, maybe the entire Braves team, system included.

Keep him in the rotation and let him work through the good and bad.

If what he's showing now is sustainable then we have our future ace. His stuff is filthy but control has always been his downfall. Sims figured it out and Folty may have done the same. We really need Folty to have clicked bc it would make it a lot easier to trade other pitchers for offense.

He can still dial that 4 seam FB up when he gets more comfortable with his command. He is one I see improving as the year develops. If he continues with solid starts like his last two, then go ahead and get used to the idea that JT will be traded. Folty/wisler as a 1/2 would be a nice start. I hope Blair can continue to learn. He seems like a smith type though. Someone who will take a month or so to adjust. I like his stuff and think he will be our #3 next year.

The Folty Wisler starts this year have been very encouraging and make me feel a lot better about the future of the rotation should they keep it up. Still don't know if I would trade JT yet, though. It'd be nice to have 3 known quantities

Glad he wasn't moved to the pen.

Yep, this is why he was kept in the rotation. Until we're serious about winning, it makes sense to give guys time to get it. If he keeps pitching like he did yesterday, he could become our ace pretty quickly.

His 2-seamer was coming in around 92-93 last year. He's now throwing it 95-96 and commanding it really well. That is a game-changer for him.

Totally agree ZB.

He was throwing his two seamer with some nice movement at 90ish mph earlier in the year. Then suddenly last night he was throwing 96-98 mph with the same type of movement. It's almost as if McDowell told him to throw his two-seamer with the same velocity. If his fastball continues to be what it was last night then he's going to be real tough.

I don't know how many of you are old enough to remember a young John Smoltz, but this kid has a lot of John from his younger years in him. Right down to the temperment that he's not a guy you want to be around on game day when he is pitching.

I am glad Folty has had a couple good games improving his command but for his potential to be as high as others in the system he'll need to improve his secondary stuff.

That said, Folty's last two games are the first two in a Braves uniform (minors or MLB) that he's started and not walked anyone. He's suddenly throwing strikes much more consistently, that is the biggest change I've seen with him of late.

His slider looks much improved. He's using his change more too. His curveball is a good third/fourth pitch.

So there have to be some members here, who said he sucked immediately after the trade was announced and bitched on multiple occasions about the trade at the time. Let's hear back from them.

He seems to be using his secondary pitches more wisely the last few overall. But a number of the hard hit balls and hits have come off his slider. His change-up still seems below average but he isn't throwing it much and when he has they seem to be looking fastball. The biggest difference I see is the harder sinker being thrown more along with his four-seamer with much improved command in his last two games.

I don't think anybody complained about letting the Gorn go. We got a really good package for him all things considered. I think people were doomsday mode when he was giving up homers every game.

Didn't y'all already do this discussion after Folty had a good few games last year starting in Cincy IIRC? It's like a time machine how we repeat the same discussions in the same manner with the exact same crowd, lol. Personally, I was hoping we could give Folty a few more games before we go down this road again. I guess not. :)

That said, I don't think I even commented in the original Gattis trade thread. But I'll be happy to admit I was wrong about Folty if he reaches the potential some here see for him. However, I'll need quite a bit more than two games against teams that came in slumping to do so.

Yeah, I think most were fairly happy with the package we got for Gattis, I know I was at the time. I'd rather we had grabbed Velaquez, but it is what it is.
